Chères et chers membres du groupe Wikimédiens du Cameroun,

cher Hugo Poet, cher Georges Fodouop,

je m'appelle Yann LeGall et suis chercheur à l'Institut d'Histoire de l'Art de Berlin. En partenariat avec Lucy Patterson, Mohammed Sadat Abdulai et Lukas Fuchsgruber de Wikimédia Allemagne, nous allons organiser un atelier sur la documentation les pillages coloniaux dans les anciennes colonies allemandes sur Wikidata, ainsi que la question de la provenance de biens culturels spoliés dans les métadonnées. Dans l'optique d'ouvrir cet atelier aux practicien·es de Wikipédia/Wikidata des pays concernés par ces pillages coloniaux, notre collègue Uwe Jung nous a fortement conseillé de vous inviter.

Cet atelier, intitulé "Significant event: looting" se déroulera à Berlin le 15 Septembre 2025. Nous voudrions vous inviter cordialement à y participer en tant qu'expert·es de l'écriture de l'histoire du Cameroun sur Wikipedia. Nous espérons que ceci pourra intéresser vos members et sommes sûr·es que leurs perspectives sur notre travail seront précieuses.

Voici quelques exemples de notre projet:
- l'expédition de 1902 contre le peuple Nso' et le pillage de Ngonnso' --> cf Query: ici
- l'expédition allemande contre Mankon et Bafut
- l'expédition contre Nakelli N'wembeli et le peuple Ngolo ainsi que le vol de ce relief aujoutd'hui au Musée Linden de Stuttgart

Information importante: L'atelier se déroulera en anglais. Il commencera à 8h (heure de Yaoundé). La partie hybride durera jusque 12:15. Il n'est pour l'instant pas prévu de garder un format hybride pour l'après-midi, mais cela peut changer si beaucoup de participant·es se connectent via Zoom.

Je travaille très étroitement avec Dr. Richard Tsogang Fossi, qui est consultant scientifique de la comission interministérielle sur la restitution du patrimoine culturel camerounais. Il sera aussi sûrement là lors de l'atelier.

Dear Wikimedians of Cameroon,

My name is Yann LeGall and I am a researcher at the Institute for Art History in Berlin. In partnership with Lucy Patterson, Mohammed Sadat Abdulai and Lukas Fuchsgruber from Wikimedia Germany, we will organize a workshop on documenting colonial looting in former German colonies on Wikidata and how to document the provenance of looted cultural heritage on the platform. Our colleague Uwe Jung advised us to write to you. It is very important to us to reach out to Wikimedia communities in the countries which were affected by German colonialism and in particular the theft of cultural assets.

This workshop, entitled “Significant event: looting,” will take place in Berlin on September 15, 2025. We would like to cordially invite you to participate as experts in writing the history of Cameroon on Wikipedia. We hope that this subject is of interest among members of your network and are confident that their perspectives on our work would be very valuable.

Important information: the workshop will take place in English. It will start at 8 a.m. (Yaoundé time). The hybrid part will last until 12:15 p.m. There are no plans to keep a hybrid format for the afternoon at this time, but this may change if many participants connect via Zoom.
