While I think that the effort to host WikiConference USA would help Cascadia Wikimedians itself scale up regardless of the year, I also believe that an anonymous edit adding Seattle to the list of Wikimania 2016 bidders is unconscionable without first getting a consensus within the user group. Even with a consensus, there should be no IP posts "volunteering" Seattle, anyway. That's just avoiding taking responsibility.

BTW, does anybody have any thoughts about when & where to have the first Cascadia Wikimedians user group meeting?

We've discussed hosting WikiConference USA in 2016, but someone using an IP went a step further and added Seattle to the list of potential bidders for Wikimania 2016. I understand how scaling up makes sense, especially if we have strong U.W. support and are able to hire an event planner, but the main reason I have not suggested scaling up the event is that we are a young group and we need to grow in a sustainable way;  Wikimania is a very large event that may distract us from the kinds of work we have already planned to pursue like forming local partnerships, so I feel that Wikimania would be a more appropriate event for us to host in 2017 or 2018 when we have a firmer foundation and perhaps more numerous local Wikimedians and partners who will assist with coordinating the event. Thoughts?
