We are going to prepare a bid to host the 2015 OpenStreetMap SOTM-US conference here. The request for bids will be made by the US chapter in late September and due by mid November. Everyone's help will be needed to craft a winning bid. I've only attended two SOTM-US conferences, but really enjoyed both. The conference runs two days over a weekend, plus usually a code sprint day and another day for workshops. The cost for last years conference in San Francisco was only around $80 so much more affordable. And they have the usual scholarships.
They have tentatively plan to hold the conference Mid April. For us the weather is a concern. On the bright side (like that ever happens in April) costs should be better. I believe we can make a case for holding it in the summer, but I'd like to hear everyone thoughts.
As the local host we are responsible for:
We are not responsible for fundraising, program, sponsors, registration, PR, video recording or website.
If there are areas we think the Chapter should handle we can push back. As and old friend said, this is all cast in jello.
By now you are probably wondering what a winning bid looks like. Take a look at Portland for 2012. Looking at Portland Bid, here are the areas we can divide up to tackle the bid as a group.
What I'm looking for from you to let me know which area you'd like to work on. Some of you might be going to FOSS4G in Portland (I'm so jealous) hopefully you'll have a chance to talk to the organizers to get a feel for what we should be doing to make a successful conference.
Thanks,
Clifford
