Dear Devang Dave,
I also joined this mailing list quite recently, and I’m pretty pessimistic about a meetup like this happening anytime in the near future. (The last meetup was in September as I wrote earlier; the last meetup before that was in January 2021, shortly before I myself joined English Wikipedia and made my first edit.) But if it works for you personally, I’ll be at the MIT campus this afternoon and evening, so you can meet me there then.
Sincerely,
duck_master

Hi all,
At the [last meetup](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Boston/Casual_Meetup) at MIT on Saturday September 30, four people ultimately showed up: namely, Enterprisey, Alan Wu, yours truly, and another person whose name I've forgotten. There, if I recall correctly (I didn't take a photo sadly), we agreed that we should meet on the last Saturday of each month. In particular, that means that the next meetup should occur this Saturday, October 28, 2023. Are any of y'all down to meet that day? I think I'll be available then, except from around 2pm to 4pm, and I have no strong preference of my own as to the venue.
Relatedly, [Wiki Loves Monuments 2023](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2023_in_the_United_States) is currently going on until the end of the month. If any of y'all have fancy cameras or are good at photography, I think we could easily make this event into a fun field trip around Greater Boston to take pretty photos of monuments. There are lots of monuments around here, including [a good handful that are still yet to be photographed](https://maps.wikilovesmonuments.org/map?c=42.3452:-71.0795:12&image=0)! I'm not really a photographer myself, but I'd be willing to try it with others!
Sorry for not writing this email earlier. I look forward to hopefully seeing some of y'all again in the flesh soon.

I've been ill with some kind of respiratory bug, but which tests negative regarding COVID. However, it has greatly slowed my response time.
I'd like to point out that most successful Wikimedia events have been scheduled and arranged at least a month in advance, preferably even longer. Phoebe Ayers of the MIT Libraries has been very active and successful in the past, in organizing these events. I think her recent relative silence can be explained in part by her participation in the North America and Worldwide Wikimania meetings, both of which are out of the country. Hopefully, on her return she will resume activity, and might organize some new events for MIT"s upcoming IAP intersession in January.
Please try to get the message out earlier, so people can reserve time slots in their calendars.

Feel better Alan! Yes I have been swamped this fall. I'd be happy to host something on campus during IAP if folks like. A low key editathon, perhaps another session featuring images of Boston? We have this vast historical collection from DPLA now on Commons that needs to be better categorized and used where appropropriate: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Media_contributed_by_Digital_Com...

Sadly, the original emails went into my spam folder (Gmail considers protonmail pretty suspicious, I think), so I didn't see this until now, and others might not have either.

Dear Devang Dave,
I also joined this mailing list quite recently, and I’m pretty pessimistic about a meetup like this happening anytime in the near future. (The last meetup was in September as I wrote earlier; the last meetup before that was in January 2021, shortly before I myself joined English Wikipedia and made my first edit.) But if it works for you personally, I’ll be at the *MIT campus this afternoon and evening*, so you can meet me there then.
Sincerely,

Hi all,
At the last meetup https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Boston/Casual_Meetup at MIT on Saturday September 30, four people ultimately showed up: namely, Enterprisey, Alan Wu, yours truly, and another person whose name I've forgotten. There, if I recall correctly (I didn't take a photo sadly), we agreed that we should meet on the last Saturday of each month. In particular, that means that the next meetup should occur *this Saturday, October 28, 2023*. Are any of y'all down to meet that day? I think I'll be available then, except from around 2pm to 4pm, and I have no strong preference of my own as to the venue.
Relatedly, Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2023_in_the_United_States is currently going on until the end of the month. If any of y'all have fancy cameras or are good at photography, I think we could easily make this event into a fun field trip around Greater Boston to take pretty photos of monuments. There are lots of monuments around here, including a good handful that are still yet to be photographed https://maps.wikilovesmonuments.org/map?c=42.3452:-71.0795:12&image=0! I'm not really a photographer myself, but I'd be willing to try it with others!
Sorry for not writing this email earlier. I look forward to hopefully seeing some of y'all again in the flesh soon.
Sincerely,
duck_master

I apparently get emails delivered faster when they are in all caps. :)
I am editing from home today, and trying to figure out how to get a copy of Hiba Abu Nada's poetry and novel so I can help translate them. Alan: get better quickly!
There are also two notable events coming up, which all are invited to attend: * Wikiconf North America https://wikiconference.org/wiki/2023/Main_Page in Toronto, 11/9-12 * An outing to see Annie perform Depths of Wikipedia, 11/30 https://www.ticketmaster.com/depths-of-wikipedia-live-with-annie-boston-massachusetts-11-30-2023/event/01005EE80F719F0C (some of us sitting in section B)

Dear all,
Sorry for the late email; I can't make it today anymore due to a different event I was at lasting much longer than I expected.
When can y'all meet in November? I am generally free on the weekends, though I can also make weekday afternoons after 3pm or so.
Sincerely,
duck_master
