After consulting my wife Caroline, we would like to offer free use of our office facilities for the upcoming Wikipedia meeting. This is the same place where we had an informal after-meeting meeting last year.  Caroline has a work appointment scheduled for July 20th, but will either reschedule it or go offsite and return later.

ADVANTAGES:

Real street address, findable in Google Maps and Google Street View (6 Edgerly Place, Boston MA 20116), located in the Bay Village neighborhood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bay_Village,_Boston).

The Walk Score (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walk_Score) rating of this location is 98, and the Transit Score is 100.  We are 1/5 mile south of the MBTA Green Line Arlington station, and a short walk from the MBTA Orange Line Tufts Medical Center station, and not too far from the Back Bay station (commuter rail, Amtrak).  South Station (Red Line, commuter rail, Amtrak from NYC and DC) is walkable, or you can take the Red Line and transfer to the Green Line at MBTA Park Street station.

Commercial parking is available across the street (not cheap, but very convenient if you must drive).

Air conditioned, out of the unpredictable Boston weather (bring an umbrella or a compact raincoat, just in case).

Lots of seating, including a large conference table and plenty of clean, carpeted floor for overflow crowds.

WiFi and hardwired Ethernet access (unfortunately, not very fast, but adequate).

Free coffee or tea (K-cup machine, lots of choices), also tap water and chilled filtered water.

A short walk from Boston's Chinatown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinatown,_Boston,_Massachusetts), also the fancier Park Square, South End, and Back Bay restaurant districts and sandwich shops.  Grab a snack on the way here, or join a possible after-meeting food expedition.

Right price (free).

DISADVANTAGES:

No display projector (but if you bring your own, we have a small screen on the wall).

You may enjoy yourself so much that you lose track of the time.  Out-of-towners, please remain aware of the transit schedules.  If you're on a tight budget but want to stay overnight, there is a clean and friendly Hostel between here and Chinatown, at the edge of the Theatre District (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Street_Theatre_District).  The Hostel is located at 19 Stuart Street, Boston MA 02113, and appears to be very popular with international travelers; you are advised to make advance reservations (http://hiusa.org).

p.s. A tip of the hat to Pharos, who remembered us from last year, and encouraged us to offer our facilities again.

Sorry, but this location is a terrible idea. The picnic held a few weeks ago demonstrated the difficulty of holding an outdoor event in a large park. Despite what seemed to be an easy to find location, the people attending had extreme difficulty in finding one another. I would strongly suggest that we hold the event at an indoor area with an actual numerical address. Additionally it is worth keeping in mind that the last annual meetup drew over two dozen people, so we're going to want to have a location large enough to accommodate such a group of that size.

Hey everyone,

So, I have figured out a date and time for the meeting. On July 20th, from 12:00 to 2:30, we will be holding the meeting at Veteran’s Memorial Park in the Back Bay Fens. You can find more information on the Meetup page (http://www.meetup.com/wikipedia-5/events/128713422/) and the page on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/2nd_Annual_Wikimedia_New_England_General_Meeting) In the event of inclement weather, we will come up with an alternative site, in the future. See you all there!
