Hi all,
I had been planning to help coordinate and organize Wiki
Loves Monuments (WLM) in the New England region (including Boston), but I won't
be able to devote significant time to that. If you are interested in that coordinating role, please
add your name to the Team Organization table at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2012_in_the_United_States#Team_organization. If you're interested in helping plan an event in Boston or another place in the region, take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Takes_America.
There are a few important high-level tasks that need to be done for WLM in the New England region:
1) Generate a list of places to photograph and make that list user-friendly
2) Get in touch with local media entites: The Boston Globe, Worcestor Telegram and Gazette (http://www.telegram.com/), The Lowell Sun http://www.lowellsun.com/, and/or others listed at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_newspapers_in_Massachusetts would be appropriate.
3) Put up paper fliers around universities, community centers, etc. announcing WLM, and reach out to photography clubs
There is a Wiki Loves Monuments IRC channel on freenode -- #wikilovesmonuments -- where you can talk with people knowledgeable about WLM. There is also an active Wiki Loves Monuments mailing list: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikilovesmonuments/. Other helpful people to contact about WLM include Pharos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Pharos), Multichill (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Multichill), Dominic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Dominic) and SJ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Sj).
Although I won't be able to devote much time to the WLM planning for New England in August, I might be able to contribute in a minor role in September.
Thanks,
Eric
