Hi Wikimedians,
I would love to share with you an idea, that I've planned to improve Bangla
Wikisource (
http://bn.wikisouce.org) contents by typing digitized (PDF,
DjVu) books now available at Public domain license. Target people for this
plan is students of school, college and universities.
The basic idea is Bangla does not have any good OCR to work. But there are
lots of digitized public domain books are available at internet as well
printed public domain books in reality. So we have to type the books to
make it in Unicode. So run series of type-a-thon event in educational
institutions where student can learn how to type Bangla using Bangla
Wikisource integrated typing tools. They can practice Bangla typing with
the Bangla Wikisource ProofReading extention page by typing the PDF or DjVu
pages uploaded at Bangla Wikisource or Commons. They will also lean about
Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects in Bangla. That's a way we can
improve and increase Bangla Wikisource contents and also enable students to
contribute in Bangla Wikimedia projects.
I made a draft the idea at the meta page[1] with some more explanations and
more details. I would like to invite you to join the plan, improve it and
make it success by discuss it, with your comments, suggestions and your
active participations.
