From previous experience, I also doubted that, it may not be possible to make the booking just the day before meetup, and it's much crowded specially on Friday. And if it's not possible for us to sit altogether, than there's no meaning of the meetup. So the date should be changed; it can be Sunday.

Dear All,
I just talk to Star hotel (Dhanmondi 2) authority just now. They inform me this Friday Start hotel fully booked with several party. But they welcome us to go this Friday but they not able to confirm us about any seat. So that its may not possible to seat all of our member in one/two table. Also the authority say this Friday lots of people may come.

So is it possible to change the date. Its may Saturday or Sunday or another day. I think its best if we change the date. So that we confirm & try to advance booking. If its Saturday or Sunday i may talk now to confirm booking.

Please rise your voice ASAP..

A few days ago I went at a Iftar party at Dhanmondi Star where about 120 of my friends gathered. For this we had to book the event about 2 weeks earlier and the hotel authority is always strict about the number of people joining. They said if less people come than we have to buy the package for the rest of the people and if more people come than they wouldn't get Iftar. So adjusting the number of people exactly is very important. And the Hotel doesn't allow booking by phone, someone has to go in person in 1st or 2nd floor to make the booking and pay some money in advance as well as fixing the menu.

That's Great!

@Belayet bhai, can you please initiate the registration process?

@Hasib bhai, can you please collect the contact details of Stat Kabab authority and share with us so that we can talk to the appropriate person for booking?

But fact is that to confirm the place in Friday. Every day Iftar time Star Kabab (Dhanmondi 2) full with lots of people. If we need to confirm date its need to first book the place. Friday lots of people go this place. Better to contact Star Kabab authority ASAP & confirm the booking. If not possible Friday its may Saturday or another day.

Great, so WMBD needs to adjust the budget appropriately and handle all the payments, while Belayet and others can help reach out to people and spread the word about the event.

Thinking in advance of some possible topics it would be constructive to discuss would be good too.

Agreed with Nasir Khan. Fixing the venue @ Old Dhaka Star Kabab will not be wise considering the persistent heavy traffic in that locality & lack of transportation (the only viable route for new Dhaka Wikipedians is through Gulistan which is a very crowded area & participants would have to walk a long way to reach old Dhaka Star Kabab from there). In that case, I'm afraid, most of the Wikipedians will not be able to join. Dhanmondi Star Kabab, on the other hand, is in the middle of the city & has good connectivity from all over city. It is also spacious & food is also good.

I also think that WMBD should fund & organize the event. In that case WMBD will pay the costs incurred at the restaurant directly, so we don't have to go through the extra layers of grant application, approval & grant execution report submission to WMBD. In that case we may announce the event in the name of WMBD & encourage Wikipedians to participate.

Hi,

It is a nice idea to arrange this type to meetups. Here is a chance to meet the existing contributors of wikipedia and may be we will meet some new guys too.

Form the mailing list and village pump discussion i found that the number of participant is not that big. So in that case WMBD can easily fund this event.

I have a few suggestions regarding this event venue. It is a great idea to have iftar at the puran dhaka area. But i think it is better to sit at the Star kabab restaurant near Dhanmondi 2. There are several bus lines available to go there. And another thing is we may want to discuss some of our future plans before the iftar. Dhanmondi 2 star has a huge sitting arrangement (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor are available now) so if we can come earlier than we can easily continue our discussion before it get too crowded. about the date, i prefer friday.

So we can create the event page, and confirm our wikipedian friends.

As far as I see it's a community based initiative like meetups or so and usually this kind of initiatives do not get WMBD funding. However if he (or any other organizer) seeks funding he or anyone else can write (with a rough bugdet, similar to a grant proposal) to WMBD officials directly. And the tresurer (Ali Haidar Khan) sounds like the good person to contact. I hope this will be dealt in timely fashion from WMBD's side.

/me too.
