Dear all,
sorry for coming back so late on the subject :-(
The idea of a "regional coordinator network" is to have the lower workload per coordinator and the maximum of efficiency. I think that the Asian Chapters coordination can have easily several coordinator.
My idea of the workflow would a really simple one:
Request on a regional or linguistic mailing list >>>> the coordinator subscribe to this mailing list transmit it in englsih to the other coordinator >> each coordinator transmit it on his specific mailing list >>answer come back through the same channel.
I think that you can decide on your list who can be coordinator, or just directly wrote your name on the WCA journal (should be publish monday.)
I sincerely thank you all for your answers and hope to see you in Hong Kong!
I also took the opportunity to tell you in first that we have a new board member, Matina Haemmerli, she will help us a lot in improving our governance, and in term of project, she will especially focus on the interaction between our chapter and your chapters! Asian chapters really matters for Wikimedia CH, and we are especially happy to have a board member that travel several time per year to India, and will be able to visit other chapters around!
Cheers
Charles

But the thing here is that Bengali is the language of only one chapter: Wikimedia Bangladesh. There's a reason why there are coordinators for French- and Spanish-speaking countries or, more pedantically speaking, Francocoop and Iberocoop. There's more than one chapter for both languages, and in particular for Spanish. I was apparently mistaken for the CEE group.
Let's remember here that Charles is looking for a regional coordinator for the Chapters Exchange. The Exchange is basically a project of the WCA which facilitates the exchange of services (i.e. tech infrastructure, assistance with organizing conferences, etc.) between chapters and chapters-to-be. As chapters are geographical entities, language divisions here are irrelevant.
However, as we still lack a coordinator, if you'd like to volunteer to be the Asian coordinator (as WMBD is a member of the WCA), then feel free to volunteer for all of us. ;)

Well according to WCA journal on meta, I can see name of regional coordinators for French-speaking countries and Spanish-speaking countries.
Other point, Charles mentioned 'in the language he prefer'. If a coordinator can not understand the language, then how can he know that it was a cry for help related to 'exchange'?
Bengali is official language for Bangladesh (first language), West Bengal (state of India), Assam (state of India), Tripura (state of India) and Sierra Leone with 205 million+ native speakers.
I leaving it to WCA exchange team to decide. And as I do build websites for living and a fanboy of Linux, I would be happy to help on the related technical issues as well.

I presume this is for the entire region, as there is one coordinator for the CEE group and one for Iberocoop. There can be one coordinator who forwards everything to this list, and then from here people can translate things if necessary.

Hi Charles,
I have a question. Will there be 'one' representative for whole Asia region or 'one' coordinator per major languages spoken in Asia? You know a wide variety of languages are spoken throughout this region and knowing all those languages for one person is virtually an impossibility.
If you meant 'one' coordinator per language, then I would be happy to lend a hand for Bengali.

Dear all,
I took the lead of the "exchange" team of the WCA. http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Chapters_Association/Journal/2013_M...
This team aim to facilitate exchange of service (like website hosting, documentation template exchange, etc.) between chapters and chapters to be.
Even if this team has been created within the WCA, its scope is not restricted to chapters members of the association.
To help me is this task, I'm looking for a regional coordinator from the Asian Chapters mailing list.
The basic idea is that a chapters looking for anything can ask on the mailing list he like to use and in the language he prefer, like this the coordinator will just transmit to the rest of the Exchange team the request, and each other coordinator will assure the transfer to the other linguistic or thematic mailing list.
I hope you will like the idea and join me!
Sincerely
Charles
