Dear Colleagues,
I understood that most of us (chapters) have different preferences, and we respect that.
I personally prefer an Asian to be part of the board seats, but from the choices we have today, we much prefer a person who has the most interaction with our chapter.
I think if knew more each other, and also have a brave person from within our Asian chapters vie for that seat in the next selection, most likely we can have a common preference.
It is a good time to discuss mutual regional cooperation first over politics.

Hi Kartika,
I understand that that the chapters-selected board seat has fiduciary duty, but from the view of Asian chapters, a person who have a good understanding about Asia is needed to cooperate with Asian chapters, and also suit with the movement of foundation for the countries like India.
Lodewijk and Alice are from Euro and i doubt how much they know about Asia.

Hi Deryck,
I don't expect the candidates put Asian communities as their main agenda. Candidates should be fair and representing all (or most) chapters if they get elected. Referring to this page,http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_board_manual#Fiduciary_dutiesthe Selected Board will have fiduciary duty.
Under the Board selection procedures, trustees are elected or appointed
by different communities or appointed by the Board directly. Nevertheless, a trustee's fiduciary duties are owed to all of the Foundation, *not to the specific group that elected or appointed the trustee.
Personally, I am willing to reach consensus regionally. At least, so far we only turn in 4 names: Lodewijk, Craig, Alice, and Theo (not so much diverse) :P
Regards,
Kartika

The main difference between us and Iberocoop is that culturally we're a much more diverse bunch then them, therefore within the Wikimedia sphere our interests are less aligned with each other than they.
With neither Craig nor Theo putting representing and developing Asian Wikimedian communities as their main agendum (correct me if I'm wrong), coordinated voting between Asian chapters is probably not in the best interests of individual chapters among us.

To add, I believe there are people from Indian chapter and Bangladesh in this list? How do you guys feel?
Kartika prompt to me that Asian chapters combine are as equal as Iberocoop in terms of quantity; IN, ID, BD, MK, TW, HK, PH : seven. If we can say Asian chapters decided to vote for X and Y, then it means we can actually function regionally. Or we can choose to do it individually, either way i'm cool with it.
