Hi Everyone,
On behalf of the Wikimedia East, South East Asia and the Pacific (ESEAP), I
would like to congratulate Wikimedia Taiwan and the Wikidata community in
Taiwan for hosting WikidataCon 2023 with an online component.
I truly appreciate the Taiwanese community for allowing me on August 2018
to administer training on Wikidata and I am very much happy now that the
Wikidata community in Taiwan had bloomed, prospered and now co-leading an
event with Wikimedia DE.
We hope all the best for this upcoming event and the results it will
deliver to the emerging communities in the ESEAP region and of the world.
Kind regards,
Butch Bustria

Hi, Everyone!
Mark your calendars! Singapore is calling. Wikimania 2023 will run from
16-19 August.
This year’s theme is *Diversity. Collaboration. Future. *
Diversity. Wikimania will be an opportunity to showcase ESEAP as an example
of inclusion: different volunteer groups, individuals, and affiliates, at
different stages of development, different cultures but closely involved in
an equitable way.
Collaboration. As a distributed growth mechanism, Wikimania will be a way
to learn and share new knowledge like tools usage, organizing events /
online campaigns, solving a Wiki-related problem and many others.
Future. Wikimania is also significant to many Wikimedians as Wikimania 2023
will also be a forum to discuss implementing the Wikimedia Movement
Strategy (#Wikimedia2030) and discuss other future-thinking topics.
The days will look like this:

Dear Wikimedia Asia Chapters,
The Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement Guidelines Revisions committee
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>
is requesting comments regarding the *Revised Enforcement Draft Guidelines
for the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC)*
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>.
This review period will be open from *8 September 2022 until 8 October
2022.*
The Committee collaborated to revise these draft guidelines based on input
gathered from the community discussion period from May through July, as
well as the community vote that concluded in March 2022. The revisions are
focused on the following four areas:
1. To identify the type, purpose, and applicability of the UCoC training;
2. To simplify the language for more accessible translation and
comprehension by non-experts;
3. To explore the concept of affirmation, including its pros and cons;
4. To review the balancing of the privacy of the accuser and the accused
The Committee requests comments and suggestions about these revisions by *8
October 2022*. From there, the Revisions Committee anticipates further
revising the guidelines based on community input. You can find the Revised
Guidelines on Meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>,
and a comparison page in some languages.
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>
Everyone may share comments in a number of places. Facilitators welcome
comments in any language on the Revised Enforcement Guidelines talk page
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Talk:Universal_Code_of_C…>.
Comments can also be shared on talk pages of translations, at local
discussions, or during conversation hours.
There are a series of *conversation hours*
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>
planned about the Revised Enforcement Guidelines. We will host an
Asia-Pacific time zone-friendly conversation hour on *Friday, 16 September,
10:00 UTC*. Live interpretation in *Chinese* and *Japanese* will be
provided.
The facilitation team supporting this review period hopes to reach a large
number of communities. If you do not see a conversation happening in your
community, please organize a discussion. Facilitators can assist you in
setting up the conversations. Discussions will be summarized and presented
to the drafting committee every two weeks. The summaries will be published
here
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Universal_Code_of_Conduc…>.

Hey Folks,
We at ESEAP are at the brainstorming / planning stage of our first
in-person Wikimania in 4 years. The virtual conferencing and satellite
event setup also had increased your participation to our annual event.
We opened a Wikimania Wiki page to allow you, our valued participant to
share your ideas and wishes for the 18th edition of Wikimania.
These can be products/ software/ application to use, timelines, program
types and many others!
The wiki page is:
https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2023:Ideas
We will look to your ideas and see how it will come to life!
Kind regards
