Hey guys!

I'd be more than happy to grab a beer with you and talk about Wikimedia and the EU.

Meet under the big screen (food court) at 18:00?

Yes, I know and initially, we were considering having a chat with Dimi and Nicole about it. I just thought we could grab a chance to draw a larger crowd.

Hi Raul,

I'm interested in talking about this topic. Do you know about the EU policy project?

I think Dimi is in Wikimania, but unfortunately I haven't meet him yet.

A short clarification:

I did NOT mean to set up an organization of European chapters.

It's just that on a recent trip to European Commission I noticed that the coverage of EU on wikiprojects is surprisingly lousy, yet it influences millions of people and could be really important. A usual article on a multimillion dollar program of EU is only present on English and French Wikipedias, has no sources, doesn't mention implementation, media coverage or influence, and dates from 2007 or 2009. Fairly, it sucks. But it doesn't have to be like that.

EU institutions aren't any good in spreading neutral and objective information directly to the people whose lives they influence, so everything goes through the filters of local politicians and media which all too often have their own agenda. (That's why there's a monthly panic about "EU forbidding this or that".) To be honest, we're much better at communication than the EU professionals are. So, maybe we could cooperate.

I'm not a missionary for this, I won't try to convince anyone. I'm already exhausted by my current work. But I'd like to hear if anyone else thinks we could (or should) do something about it.

Is anyone interested in discussing a quite raw idea: a possible thorg for covering European Union in different Wikiprojects and languages? I'm not even absolutely sure it would be a good idea, or how it should be working, but I think it would be worth discussing.

I've already talked to some of us, so I hope they chime in and help us find a time slot - maybe sometime tonight, before people start to leave.
