I know you are all adults and free to decide on what you do, but I would like to reiterate what I said when this first came to the fore;
*this is one place where it would be better to make yourown arrangements as you[Harry] said it has a terrible history. This is oneplace that's best left to the individual, I'm not even sure I wouldwant to share experiencing that place with other people I dont know.On a personal level. I'd hate to have to deal with a person who tookthe tour not knowing the horrors of the place*
Wikimania is about having fun, learning new things, and sharing your experiences.
Do not take the decision to go lightly, this is not some adventure into history through the eyes of a curated museum. This is walking into a frozen point of time where the worst depths of humanity you can ever imagine prevailed.
I know everyone here enjoys reading, please take some time to read about the experiences of others who have taken this journey, this is no happy place, no place for a bit of fun. You are not being invited to hear a story of the past, you are visiting a solem site that remains as and where it was built to remind all who visit to bear witness to the horrors of man.
If you chose to do so, do it afterwards, after you have enjoyed Wikimania, written your reports and filled in the surveys, because the COT & CEE don't deserve that place to be colouring your thoughts about Wikimania.

For both logistical and cost reasons, the Core Organizing Team has decided to focus on side events inside the city of Katowice. We do not plan to organize any activities outside of the city. However, attendees are always free to self-organize tours and excursions based on their interests.
We expect to coordinate and announce our side events in the months leading up to Wikimania, so keep your eye out for that on the Wikimania-wiki!
