We in Cascadia Wikimedians discussed offering child care for some of our events. There are liability reasons for not having simple co-op kinds of childcare in our jurisdiction without appropriate training and insurance, and the same considerations might apply to Wikimania. In principle offering childcare is something that we should do, and where the marginal cost of offering it is reasonable like Wikimania it makes particularly good sense to pay for quality childcare with appropriate insurance. I would encourage WMF to mandate that future Wikimanias include the offering of a certain number of childcare slots with appropriate funding for quality, insured childcare.
