I want to second that and also offer deepest and sincerest apologies to any gender nonconforming members of the list. Most of us recognize it is not self-identification and that the harm caused by inquiries like this and negligent use of that framing has no place in any civil movement interested in maturing on pace with world around them.

It strikes me that at end of a month when companies felt intimidated by such queries - they cowered in fear and hid their LGBT mercy. Imagine how LGBTQ people feel facing inquiries like that almost daily without the luxury of just hiding what makes us who we are. If someone like this person who has never personally faced an incident states fear off the hypothetical- imagine how people like myself who have received more death threats from TERFs over the years than I care to remember feel about TERFs being in any space with them (let alone a bathroom or workshop space).

I feel bad that the world is leaving this person and their friend behind - but I am glad Wikimedia does not feel inclined to stay in the past with them.
