As far as I remember that survey (not very well), I'm quite sure I never expressed any interest in getting into a mailing list. After all, I'm not religious, I'm not a Muslim, and I live in a country where most people confuse Ramadan with ramen. So most likely, some other answer in the survey was erroneously taken for a list inclusion confirmation. You might want to check what went wrong.
Also: quite evidently, the mistake was on your side, so it would be nice if you amended it, at least by excluding the people who have expressed their irritation. I have no idea which of my usernames has been connected to this list (I've had different ones in my 21 years as a Wikipedian and the last time I ordered a list there was about a decade ago) and it doesn't accept any of my current passwords, so unsubscription that way is a major hassle for me - adding insult to injury, as the English saying goes. I'd appreciate if you fixed the results of your actions on your own.
Right now, you don't even know how many people haven't protested because your unsolicited mails go straight into the spam folder. This is not a good way to start a mailing list for cooperation.
