Dear WLM organizers and participants,
We have some good news for you! As potential interested stakeholders, we would like to share with you that the Connection Product team https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Campaigns/Foundation_Product_Team at the Wikimedia Foundation is enabling the CampaignEvents extension https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:CampaignEvents on Wikimedia Commons by the week of September 15th.
This extension is designed to simplify the management of community events, projects, and campaigns, such as yours! In addition to facilitating the discovery and participation of all contributors in these events. Once it's enabled on Wikimedia Commons, organizers will have access to features that will help communicate with participants, as well as plan, organize, and promote events/campaigns/projects on Wikimedia Commons, without having to rely on external platforms.
The features of the extension are:
- Event Registration: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event_Center/Registration A tool that helps organizers and participants manage event registration directly on the wiki. - Collaboration List https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Campaigns/Foundation_Product_Team/Event_list: A global list of events and a local list of WikiProjects, accessible at Special:AllEvents https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:AllEvents. - Invitation List: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaigns/Foundation_Product_Team/Invitation_list A tool to help organizers find editors who might want to join, based on their past contributions.
For more information, please check the message shared https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#Upcoming_Deployment_of_the_CampaignEvents_Extension on Wikimedia Commons’ Village Pump.
If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to share them on the extension discussion page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:CampaignEvents. We would love to hear from you before the rollout!
As organizers, if you want to know more about the extension or help us engage/use the features on Wikimedia Commons, and assist us in creating an adoption strategy for the extension, please let us know either here, on the extension discussion page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:CampaignEvents, or by contacting me directly via gfontenelle@wikimedia.org.
Thanks so much for your attention!

Dear WLM organizers and participants,
Good news! Following up with my last message, the Connection team https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Campaigns/Foundation_Product_Team at the Wikimedia Foundation has launched the CampaignEvents extension https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:CampaignEvents on Wikimedia Commons today.
More details are available on Commons:Event organizers https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Event_organizers.
The features now available are:
-
Event Registration https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event_Center/Registration - A tool that helps organizers and participants manage event registration directly on Commons. -
Collaboration List https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MyLanguage/Campaigns/Foundation_Product_Team/Event_list - A global list of events accessible at Special:AllEvents https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:AllEvents. -
Invitation List https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaigns/Foundation_Product_Team/Invitation_list - A tool to help organizers find editors who might want to join, based on their past contributions.
Please note the extension comes with a new user right https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Event_organizers#Seeking_the_rights on Commons. You will need to have this right to use Event Registration and Invitation List.
Regarding Invitation List, please be aware that this feature will not be as useful to Wikimedia Commons in its current form. However, this feature was made available so people can try it out and give suggestions to the team on how to improve it, especially for Commons.
Let us know via the discussion page https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:CampaignEvents if you have any questions. I'm also working on an engagement plan for the extension. If you are an organizer and would like to collaborate or learn more, please reach me via gfontenelle@wikimedia.org.
Thank you, Giovanna
