Hello all,
I am writing this to share an exciting update with you all.
This year, as part of Wikimedia Foundation's participation in Google Summer of Code 2026 https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/, Montage was one of the community projects that got a slot for participation (T415578 https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T415578; T421543 https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T421543). After reviewing several applications and interacting with the contributors, we are excited to welcome Abhinav Mohandas (cc'ed) onboard as GSoC contributor to Montage this summer.
During the next 3-4 months, Abhinav will be working on various fixes and feature improvements on Montage. Please note that he will be spending the next few weeks getting on board and familiar with the tool, codebase etc.
*For users of the Montage tool (organizers of jury rounds, jurors etc.)*
- In the meantime, we encourage all the users of the Montage tool (organizers of jury rounds, jurors etc.) to share your input that will help us prioritize work during the contribution period. - If you have any recurring challenges/errors with the tool or would like to see new features, please share your input using the Issues on GitHub: https://github.com/hatnote/montage/issues - As a first step, please check if there is an existing issue reported by someone else, in which case you upvote using an emoji on the same issue or leave a comment. - Note: We may not get through all the issues during the contribution period, however your input would be helpful in prioritizing the issues as we move forward.
Please join me in welcoming Abhinav, and let us know if you have any questions.
Best, Krishna Chaitanya V / User:KCVelaga
Dear Krishna,
This is great news! However, I would like to mention that there are pull requests associated with many of the issues on GitHub, for example: https://github.com/hatnote/montage/pull/369
Is there a chance that they will be finally reviewed, with Abhinav's help or without?
I am glad to see activity around Montage, but we are only 3 months away from WLM2026, and I have less and less confidence that some critical issues raised during WLM2025 (image resolution threshold, voting statistics) will be resolved this year.
I would be grateful to the developers if they could prioritize those issues where fixes have been already proposed.
best, Alexander

Hi Alexander,
As an update: we have been receiving a lot of issues and PRs from GSOC applicants as part of the process. These are of varying quality. We're working on it.
At the same time, we have fixed some outstanding major bugs and concerns. Some are shipped to production, some are in beta. This also means it would be helpful if you can confirm that any bug still happens in montage-beta.
If you would like access to beta, or seriously help with testing to support Abhinav, please ping me on Telegram with your experience and mediawiki username, and I'll add you to the betatester group.
Best, Lodewijk
