Hey,
there seem to be many portal pages. What about reducing the number a bit? We could redirect this page for example to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_upload/Parti... without too much trouble. (just a different layout)

Hi all,
If you are an organizer of Wiki Loves Monuments this year, please read on! :)
For the majority of countries participating https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Participating_countries#Definitely_participating_countries in this year's WLM, the contest will start in 3 days. :) Here are a few tips the international team would like to share with you:
- Please make sure you register for wlm-announce
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wlm-announce mailing list. This is the place where we send all the important announcements local organizers should not miss. (The is a low traffic list.)
- Make sure that you go through this todo list
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Organise, if you already haven't. Assuming that you have your monument table(s) ready, please focus on items 3, 4, and 5.
- Item 3 in the list above needs special attention. Note that the
international team recommends that the landing page for each country accessed via the this list https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Participating_countries#Definitely_participating_countries be in English (You can link from there to your local language(s) page) or have at least one section in English that can help the international people participate.
- Consider reaching out to your local media and encourage the coverage of
the contest's launch. See our earlier post about this here https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikilovesmonuments/2016-August/008248.html .
- If you have questions, please use this list
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Who%27s_who#Need_help.3F to contact us. If you need immediate response, please stop by freenode IRC, channel #wikilovesmonuments (If we are there, we'd be happy to resolve your questions immediately.)
And last but not least, don't forget to enjoy the process, especially for those of you helping your country participate for the first time. :)

The "many" are just two pages, and both serve a different function.
Also we have a extensive infrastructure we need to keep in mind and changing just in less than 2 days before the start of the contest is never a good idea.

Romaine, I see your point, but having a page with incomplete/incorrect information is also a problem. The page Lodewijk has linked to is about 2015 (per the right-hand-side column) and the list of countries in it is not complete. It can be confusing for people if they land on that page. I understand that you have a lot on your plate, I'd say if someone has bandwidth to fix that page, they should feel free to.

As always countries join in on the last day before the contest starts, so the page is updated on the first day of the contest.
It is practically impossible to update pages if participating countries do not supply the required data in time. Like: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Landing... and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Central...

You miss at least 50% of the data, it would be much better if people tried to complete the missing data first, so it will be easy for me to add the data soon when all is available.

That is fine. Once that information is provided by all countries, you can do one more pass and complete everything that is left. We shouldn't let perfect be the enemy of the good.

Hey Romaine,
I'm not sure we're talking all about the same thing. Yaroslav says he /will/ update the page as good as he can. Which I'm thankful for. If more data is added later, that would be great.
Also, we were talking about the number of portal pages. On one hand there's the organisational pages, which are to update information etc. I understand that you prefer not to have a one-page-to-rule-them-all approach. However, I do think that it's better to have at least a single place where we send participants. (this was the point I was trying to make)

For the time being, I am done updating this page:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_upload/Parti...
I should be able to monitor and update it in the coming days, based on changes on this page which I have on my watchlist:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Partici...
I also detected a number of problems, which I list here just in case:
1) I transferred the link to Wiki Loves Monuments 2016/Media (there was such file in 2015, but now it a redlink).
2) 2016 FAQ was a redlink as well. I created it but I guess somebody needs to have a look at it.
3) I could not find lists for Malta, Morocco, Peru, and Turkey; for Brazil and Bulgaria I linked to 2015 lists, since 2016 lists are absent, whatever it means.
Cheers Yaroslav

All the best,
Thanks Juliana for the info. Aren't lists supposed to be the same for 2015 and 2016? If this is the case, they could be just renamed. (Or, even better, transfer to Wikipedia without any indication of the year).

hi Yoraslav, Yes, I think they do. But we also have new lists that complement the one from 2015, because in this year we were able to get lists of monuments of the State and a few of the city of São Paulo . So, I think Rodrigo is trying to work on the lists together and will update the page with all the available information.

The link to the contest is here: https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip%C3%A9dia:Wiki_Loves_Monu ments_2016/Brasil/Lista, but the data is still not there since Rodrigo is finishing the transfer of the 2015 list to this new one. We hope to have everything ready ASAP. A few volunteers and I will be correcting some information during the next days.
All the best,
Thanks Juliana for the info. Aren't lists supposed to be the same for 2015 and 2016? If this is the case, they could be just renamed. (Or, even better, transfer to Wikipedia without any indication of the year).
Cheers Yaroslav
