Hi,

I don't think it would be necessary to organize it in may per se. However, I do think we should only organize one major international competition at a time in September. So there has to be a choice. You could even stretch it to two months, and let countries pick (august/september) a month.

While countries are needed to organize it successfully (very much!) you will also need a dedicated international team of 5-7 people to coordinate everything, assuming it will be more than 10 countries. It is quite a bit of work :) Especially, on the technical side a good (and better) coordination is required to make sure things are ready in time. Without an international team, I don't see an international competition happening. Of course you could try to organize a national competition anyway (nothing prohibits that really), but you'll have to do some of the stuff the international community picked up in the past years yourself.

The problem with WLE (I like it) could be the time. The contest should be done in April (Am I wrong?) , so we have less than three months to organize it. Wikimedia Spain is also on the list of interested countries for WLE 2014.

I understand that you (Lodewijk) could be tired and you wanted to give it up. I want to thank you very much, for your work during these years coordinating WLM. Good work!

However, I think that there could be some countries interested this year and we could organize WLM 2014.

Hi,

from discussions it seems there is no clear agreement whether or not there should be an international WLM in 2014. I can at least say that I will not be involved in Wiki Loves Monuments any more (lack of time, and also because of the difficulties encountered at the funding stage and elsewhere which decreased my enthusiasm a lot) - I can't speak for the other organizers. We're still busy wrapping up the 2013 competition.

Earlier this year there were conversations to organize a Wiki Loves Earth international edition in 2014 instead of Wiki Loves Monuments, and I know at least WMNL is very interested in that, and Wikimedia Ukraine used to be.

I think it is time for people who want to join an international team for the coming year to speak up. Now is the time to get started indeed on that level, and to get as much knowledge transfer as possible from the old to the new team - be it Wiki Loves Earth or Wiki Loves Monuments.

I have the same question. I think that are still enough countries interested in a new edition. Wikimedia Spain will be one of them. Is there anyone interested?

Hi all;

Will we see in 2014 a new edition of WLM? I don't see any coordination messages or pages in Commons.
