the video prize was discontinued because we evaluated the video contest back in December and realized that our upload infrastructure is simply not up for it. The threshold to participate in a video contest is way too high and at this moment Wikimedia Commons is unfortunately not ready to ask people (newbees) to upload videos. Also the copyright issue becomes quickly complicated in videos (background music etc). The decision there had not really anything to do with the problems to connect the sponsor with the winner.
Whether we allow videos in the photo competition is a good question and not obvious for me. We probably wouldn't disqualify them, but at the same time I have a hard time seeing a video win a photo competition.

Just as a side question: We will have the video prize this year? If so, let's make sure isn't the same people, or, if is, that they give the prize earlier. (I mean, receive the prize 15 days before the next competition is horrible for marketing.)
