Personally I don't think that these events are in competition.

Italy, for instance, had a list of "natural" heritage and a list of "cultural" heritage in WLM 2013 and 2012.

So there is no sense, in my opinion to split between Earth and Cultural heritage because the base is the list of objects and people can populate this list how they want.

I see anyway two main problems:

a) Banners on Wikipedia: the big success of participation of WLM is connected with the banner, as soon the event will be locale or limited, there will be a wargame about this banner. Switzerland, for instance, needs to have this banner in de.wikipedia, in fr.wikipedia and in it.wikipedia and I suppose not only limited to the Switzerland (the contest is not limited to the Swiss citizens)
b) tools: splitting the events means also splitting the tools and it may be cost consuming

I appreciate a lot the enthusiasm but the central coordination should also look in this point: cost saving and rational workload.

In my opinion, as member of the GAC, having a lot of photographic events where the sum of participants will be the same of WLM but the costs of the organization will be increased geometrically, would be a really bad solution.

regards

LOL, so we have:

* Wiki Loves Earth 2014 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2014
* Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2014
* Wiki Loves Public Art 2014 https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Public_Art_2014

OK OK. I thought that there was no activity thats why I asked, but there are several options for this year.

I'm going to see how to help, in lists, tech or whatever.

WMSE, just as WMRO, will have a WLM even if there is no international contest.

By the way, WMSE will also be international coordinators of Wiki Loves Public Art if anyone wants to join  :) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Public_Art_2014

Hi,

From Wikimedia Ukraine I can confirm that we are still interested in organising the international edition of Wiki Loves Earth, and we already have an international mailing list for it: wikilovesearth@lists.wikimedia.org . This mailing list is, however, currently lacking activity - thus we invite everyone interested (or potentially interested) to join it: https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikilovesearth !

Discussions on timing are being held at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2014 , most options are around April-May (basically the best period to picture nature, especially in the North Hemisphere). Please par ticipate in the discussion if you are interested - the faster we decide on the time, the better.

We are currently building a team for the international edition, and we are going to request funding for WLE 2014 international edition in the name of Wikimedia Ukraine. If anyone is interested to participate in organising WLE, please join the mailing list wikilovesearth@lists.wikimedia.org as well!

Regards,
Mykola

Hi,

from discussions it seems there is no clear agreement whether or not there should be an international WLM in 2014. I can at least say that I will not be involved in Wiki Loves Monuments any more (lack of time, and also because of the difficulties encountered at the funding stage and elsewhere which decreased my enthusiasm a lot) - I can't speak for the other organizers. We're still busy wrapping up the 2013 competition.

Earlier this year there were conversations to organize a Wiki Loves Earth international edition in 2014 instead of Wiki Loves Monuments, and I know at least WMNL is very interested in that, and Wikimedia Ukraine used to be.

I think it is time for people who want to join an international team for the coming year to speak up. Now is the time to get started indeed on that level, and to get as much knowledge transfer as possible from the old to the new team - be it Wiki Loves Earth or Wiki Loves Monuments.

I have the same question. I think that are still enough countries interested in a new edition. Wikimedia Spain will be one of them. Is there anyone interested?

Hi all;

Will we see in 2014 a new edition of WLM? I don't see any coordination messages or pages in Commons.
