Some participants have uploaded multiple images with invalid IDs, using a same, dummy ID for all of them; now I think they do that because they can't asign the correct ID to each image.

No, it's not normal; it's a bug with thumbnail generation on the
cluster. See https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39975 if
you're interested in the technical details.

The gist is this: This bug appears if you're using a browser that
doesn't support client-side thumbnail generation (e.g. IE) or if
you're uploading a batch that's greater than 10MB in total size.

We're investigating. WMF is having its all-staff meetings this week
but Wednesday is a hack day, so I'm hoping we can carve out some time
to look into this then.
