As some of you may have noticed, Wikimedia is now supporting the upload of
3D models of objects. See this WMF blog post.
I'm just curious: are there any national competitions planning to focus even
slightly on 3D submissions in the coming year(s)? Do we know if it's even
feasible for such large buildings?
Let me put it this way: Montage has accepted the challenge to support
voting (from the technological standpoint) as long as at least one
campaign has a reasonable number of them. This discussion came up in
Wikimania 2017. Soooo, we're ready. :D
On another note: I would not be surprised if a couple of campaigns
want to give it a try. Some of the local organizers in Israel always
look for new angles. :)
And of course, this means fun at the international jury process level.
I'd say let's give it some months to see if people will pick it up.
