Hi all,

Apologies for my delay in chiming in here. Better late than never I guess. :)

I agree with Vira in that you should feel free to expand your country-level list with other "official" lists. What is considered official can be something that we need to discuss and if you're in doubt, I do recommend you reach out to us in wikilovesmonuments public list. In this specific case, UNESCO's list for Ghana can be considered an official list without much discussion, so yes, please go ahead and add them to your national contest if you choose to.

At the expense of stating the obvious: if you don't list the monuments in the UNESCO list as part of your "eligible" list of monuments, those monuments will technically not be considered eligible to participate in the international level contest. So if you want your participants to take a photo of them and compete for the international contest, please include them officially as part of your lists. :)

Best,
Lily

Hi,
From the perspective of WLM in Ukraine I would give this answer: you are bound by local list - but you are free to expand them :)

What I mean here is this. In Ukraine we have several types of cultural monuments and they are protected by separate governmental institutions. Thus each institution has its own list of what it protected under it. (And UNESCO heritage sites are also monuments in the national documents). So we took all the lists available and combined them into our own contest list of monuments. As soon as a building or a site is proven to be state protected we add it to the list. (Obviously, our list of monuments is gathered in Wikipedia; and a list of monuments in Ukraine as complete as this is not to be found on other sources yet).

So, imho, if you have UNESCO Ghana list and GMMB list you just use them both for the contest.

Best,

Hello all, greetings from Ghana.

UNESCO has a world heritage list which may have monuments or sites of interest to WLM: http://whc.unesco.org/en/statesparties/gh

Also the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) has a list which has served as the reference for our WLM so far.

In the event where there's a monument or site on the UNESCO list which is not on the GMMB list can we visit anyway?

We are not bound by local lists are we?
