Dear WLM community, if you were looking for a chance to organise a Wiki
Loves Earth competition, here is your opportunity!
*When?
1st of May — 31st of July.
We have a flexible approach regarding local dates, and local organizers
decide when exactly to hold their contest within the international
timeframe.
How can you join the contest this year as an organizer?
*Gather a team of volunteers with clear roles and timelines.
*Define eligible natural sites in your country (must be officially
protected).
*Prepare a landing page for the local contest.
*Put your country in the participants’ list: https://w.wiki/Cwd9
*Create a promotion plan for the contest on social networks.
*Gather a jury team to evaluate the photos (select top-15 local winners for
an international contest).
*Award your winners.
Find out more about the process in our detailed guidelines for the local
teams —

We also continue to raise awareness about environmental problems — follow
the special category "Human Rights and Environment", which is held for the
5th time —
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2025/Human_Righ…
Document the wide world of protected sites not only with images, but with
videos. For the second time, we opened a special category called "Video". Find
the details on the page —

As champions of preserving and showcasing the world's cultural heritage, your creativity and dedication are invaluable. Wikimania 2025, themed "Wikimania at 20: Inclusivity. Impact. Sustainability.*", presents a unique opportunity to amplify your voices and ideas. The conference will take place in Nairobi, Kenya on August 6-9, with a pre-conference on August 5.
We invite you to submit program proposals aligned with the conference theme—highlighting inclusivity, impact, and sustainability in the context of cultural heritage. Proposals can be presented in various formats:
● Remote presentations from the comfort of your home or workplace.
● Pre-recorded sessions to share at the conference.
● Onsite presentations in Nairobi, Kenya.
To help spark ideas, here are a few topics that may align with the conference theme:
● Sustaining Wikimedia Projects Through Cultural Heritage. Exploring how WLM projects can ensure long-term engagement, relevance, and usage.
● Sharing approaches to maintain the vibrancy of Wikimedia initiatives and keep contributions meaningful over time.
● Examining how cultural heritage projects contribute to Wikimedia's global growth and evolution.
● Exploring how WLM projects increase accessibility and representation of diverse cultural narratives.
● Showcasing success stories and measurable contributions from WLM projects to Wikimedia Commons.
Submit your proposal by March 31 at the program submission site: https://wikimania.wikimedia.org/wiki/2025:Program .
For suggestions, comments, or assistance, feel free to email at wikimania(a)wikimedia.org . Our dedicated volunteers are eager to support you in shaping your ideas.
Let’s celebrate cultural heritage! We look forward to seeing your contributions that highlight the continued impact of Wikimedia Love Monument at this landmark event. Let’s work together to make Wikimania 2025 a truly memorable celebration of free knowledge and community collaboration.

Dear organizers,
As you all know, Wiki Loves Monuments is organized on two levels.
There's you - *thank you* for that! - the members of Wikimedia chapters
and groups, who organize all the national and regional contests that are
at the base of WLM all around the world. And then there's the
international organizing team (
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2025/Organi…
), keeping an overview, helping as good as we can and handling the final
international round every year (which will be finalized in March for the
edition of 2024).
As time goes by people make new plans and lifes are changing, and so is
the team behind WLM international,
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2025/Organi…
. Right now we are looking for new volunteers that would like to be part
of the international team and would like to join in to work alongside
the more experienced international team members.
We are looking for more people that are willing to help with:
* Outreach and coordination
Communications with local organizers all around the world if they need
support. Reach out to new possible organizers and invite them to
participate. Or help with contacts to national or international
organizations in the field of built heritage.
* Jury coordination
Help with the final round of Wiki Loves Monuments, where the winners of
the international finale are determined. From finding jurors to
supporting them through the process to finally find the winning pictures.
* Insights and analysis
Savvy with surveys and analysis? Help us learn from the experiences of
national organizers and all the participants.
* Technical Infrastructure
Volunteers to help with tools like Erfgoedbot are needed, because of
ongoing maintenance for these tools. New tools may be introduced. Please
reach out if you are interested and are able to commit for a longer
period of time.
All the tasks can be combined or be done in collaboration. Although we
are active all year long, no task is requiring the same level of
attention all the time. Experience within the movement is needed and
with local WLM competitions probably very helpful for this. Think about
it and we'd love to hear from you! Please contact Lodewijk (
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Effeietsanders ) or Manfred (
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Manfred_Werner_(WMAT) ).
Best regards,
Manfred
