Dear all, a doubt: is Instagram compatible with Creative Commons? Can I upload *my* Instagram pics on Commons (so could it be used for WLM)? Please consider that I'm not suggesting Instagram pics are good for WLM (they are filtered and all, probably not very suitable for illustrating monuments on Wikipedia) but is a legal matter. Aubrey

Extension of deadline jury submissions

Hi all, after conversations with several national coordinators and the international team, we had to decide to slightly extend the unextendable deadline to allow nominations from all countries. The *new deadline is: 2 October, 22:00 UTC*. This is the same as Greenwich (winter)time, GMT. Please note that another extension will not be possible. This is already intrusive on the timeline of the international jury. I realize that many countries worked hard to make the deadline of tonight - unfortunately quite a few were having problems meeting that deadline with the quality we would like to see in the process. They would have to take shortcuts (leaving out jury members, appointing nominations by the organizers themselves) to make it tonight, so extending the deadline will hopefully improve the quality of the finals. If your country had to take such shortcut, and would be able to come up with a better validated result in the extra 46 hour, please send me an email about it - and you will also get this extension, and be able to re-submit your nominees. Thank you very much to all the organizers that did plan enough space in their timeline so that they were able to account for sick people, accidents and technical problems and submit their nominations in time. Winners Wiki Loves Monuments Spain 2013

Hello! I'm proud of announcing the finalists and winners of Wiki Loves Monuments in Spain 2013. The jury [1] worked very hard to chose among more than 23000 images the ten finalists and three first prizes. We sent an email to the international organization before, and also to each winner. We published the results on Wikimedia Commons [2] and our blog [3] (and shared it on Facebook, Wikipedia, Twitter). Some curiosities. Two finalists repeat from last year (Dan Vaquerizo and Mikipons), and three finalists have two pictures in top-ten. Two pictures show monuments of Madrid, and two more of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez. This is the first time that we can find a monument of Galicia and Region of Murcia among winners in Spain. I am trying to contact the participants of Wiki Loves Monument Switzerland but after 5 emails I receive this message: Action throttled As an anti-spam measure, you are limited from performing this action too many times in a short space of time, and you have exceeded this limit. Please try again in a few minutes. It means that I can contact 5 members per day... very few. Hi everyone, The WMF silently enabled Oauth on https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki . Most of you, if not all, have a SUL account. That means your Wikipedia account works on MediaWiki.org too. Now with the Oath interface this can be used to authenticate users. You can see it in action at https://tools.wmflabs.org/gerrit-patch-uploader/ . Hi. In WM Conference in Milan we have speak about moving WLM lists to Wikidata. For this we need a Wikidata list functionality, which is not there yet. I haven't followed this topic, have someone up-to-date information? Via facebook I learned about: http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/about/news/eh-mobilise-volunteer-heritag… a project to survey grade II listed buildings via crowd sourcing. Is the english team in contact with them? Thailand monument id change - please help

Hi All, We have used monument codes provided by the Thai Department of Fine Arts for the competition. It was later discovered by our volunteers that the codes are not unique and it was estimated that a few hundred codes are shared by two monuments. Initial contact with the Department resulted in some codes being revised to avoid collision. However, when we reported more issues the department just said that they no longer use the 10-digit coding. They have 7-digit coding in place in their website and it is in our wiki table. I have revised our table on th.wikipedia to reflect this. However, I need help on commons and somewhere else: 1. Monument IDs on uploaded photos must be changed - most of them can be done by bot - in case of id collision, we will do it manually. 2. Monument ID is now designated by "FADlink" rather than "ทะเบียน" - UpLoadWizard and related categorization bots must be revised. If you can help, please reply privately to me. Thank you very much. Hi, With most of the usability issues ironed out the last two weeks with the countries that were testing the tool, I have been preparing for deployment for the rest of the countries. Unfortunately, due to persona issues I won't have much time to take care of each installation and configuration as I planned (at least for a couple of weeks), so what I did is roll out all of the installations at http://wlm.wmflabs.org/<country code> At the moment no tool (except for those that were testing it these weeks) have users, so the first thing I'll ask every coordinator in every country listed at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/JuryTo… ist to register in your own tool using the following URL http://wlm.wmflabs.org/<country code>/register I'll take care of promoting the first user registered in every tool as admin of the tool in around 24 hours, which will let that user configure the tool. For countries that are going to test this only, and expect to use the tool on October, feel free to configure it for testing purposes since the tool can be reset. One unimplemented feature that came as a suggestion from Michael Maggs (and was something Lodewijk suggested on our original conversation too) is not to decide the number of rounds upfront, but rather have a way to start a round when needed. I didn't find the time to implement this feature, yet the tool is able to feedback from its own output so if your country does not know exactly how many rounds you will need, just configure the tool for one round, and you'll be able to export all images that meet some criteria, I'll reset the tool, and you can use that output for another round. Summary: please note the *final deadline* of 31 October. This is a hard deadline. If you have problems with your jury, please ask the international team for help as soon as possible. Dear all, let me give a quick recap of what the international process looks like: * National juries (of at least 3 jurors) start now to work, and use October to come to a decision on the national winners. (countries might use popular vote) * The national juries/popular vote must select maximum 10 pictures for the international finale. This is usually the top-10 of the national competition, but there can be exceptions (for example, if there are special categories). This is up to the national jury to decide. * If the national jury wants to submit less than 10 pictures, that is possible. They could theoretically also decide that no picture is good enough for an international finale - in such a case, please submit that decision explicitely. * Please try to submit your 10 nominees as soon as possible, ideally before 25 October. Definitely submit them *BEFORE 31 OCTOBER*, this is a hard, final deadline. * You can submit the 10 nominees by letting one of the jury members or the main organizer send an email with the 10 URL's to lodewijk [at] wikimedia.nland monica.joana11 [at] gmail.com - please make sure the main contact person in your team is always in cc, so that we know the email is genuine. * It is possible to submit your nominees confidentially. LabsDB, launched in May 2013, is designed to give volunteers the ability to write tools and generate reports that make use of data from our databases in real-time. This supports bottom-up innovation by the Wikimedia community. As part of this process, private data is automatically redacted before volunteers are given access to the data. Unfortunately, for some of Wikimedia’s wikis[1], the database triggers used to redact private data failed to take effect due to a schema incompatibility, and LabsDB users had access to private user data for some user accounts in these specific wiki databases. As of October 1, 228 users have access to LabsDB, and the window of availability of this data was May 29, 2013 to October 1, 2013. This issue was discovered and reported by a trusted volunteer, and access to the data in question was revoked within 15 minutes of the report. We have no evidence to suggest that the private data in question was exported in bulk or used for malicious purposes, but we cannot definitively exclude the possibility. As a precautionary measure, we have invalidated all affected user sessions, and are requiring affected users to change their password on their next login. We have also sent an email notification to affected users with a confirmed email address. We regret this mistake. LabsDB is still a new part of our infrastructure, and we will fully audit the redaction process, so as to minimize any risk of a future mistake of this nature.
