Hi Anna,

based on the publicly available submitted winners https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2023/Winners and the public list of participating countries https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Earth_2023/Participating_countries (the difference is probably an indicator but not entirely the same as the set of countries that did not submit winners): Central African Republic (0 uploads), Chad (0), Democratic Republic of Congo (218), Ivory Coast (313), Gabon (0), Guinea (7), Haiti (12), Mali (4), Rwanda (38), Senegal (1696), Togo (68).

Some of these countries may have submitted privately, but it looks like most of these countries are based in Africa. If the number of uploads is very low, I can imagine a scenario where there are no uploads of a quality that the national jury/organizers feel it justified to send them to the international finale.

I would love to understand also a bit better what was the cause that some countries were unable to submit winners, and perhaps if there are ways that the international community can help these organizers next time.

Best,
Lodewijk

Hi!

Thanks for the results. Can you share the list of 8(?) countries  that couldn't submit winners for the international round?

And it seems the site post with winners should be fixed. Images are not optimized.

Hi, dear WLE community! We have an exciting news for you! The most awaited moment of the international annual photographic competition devoted to natural heritage has come. We are delighted and proud to present the top 20 best images of Wiki Loves Earth 2023!🏆 This year, the contest was held for the 10th time, lasting from May 1st to August 31st.
We had a record number of participating countries, which reached 50. Many countries that started WLE last or a few years ago continued organizing the contest in 2023. And 11 of them joined the contest for the first time this year.

Overall, we received more than 61,700 submissions from over 3,300 uploaders.
42 countries submitted their local winners and moved to the international level, and we have got 492 local winning images. Thanks to our team of 13 jurors, we have the final results!
The international winners represent two categories — landscapes and macro/close-up.
You can check out the complete list of winners in a blog post👉https://wikilovesearth.org/
Many congratulations to all the winners for their contribution and time dedicated to picturing the beauty of our planet and spreading awareness about natural heritage sites all around the world! And follow us on our channels: Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/wikilovesearth/
