The Rapid Grant portal may be accessed here : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid
It is worth it to read the criteria and guidelines here : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn
Eligibility criteria[edit https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn&veaction=edit§ion=1|edit source https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn&action=edit§ion=1]
1. Individuals, groups, and organizations may apply. 2. Any individual, group, or organization is allowed up to three (3) open Project Grants and Rapid Grants at any one time.See details https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn#Details_on_grant_limit. 3. You may submit your grant request or report in any language. 4. Grants must be between 500 USD and 5000 USD (or its equivalent in another currency at the time of the application). 5. Grants can be up to 12 months in length, and there is no minimum length. 6. Rapid Grants should fund one discrete project, and not several independent projects. Everything funded by the grant must be thematically related to the grant. Ongoing operating expenses are not eligible for funding. 7. Funds are generally for direct expenses. Compensation for an individual's time is permitted for a limited number of roles. 8. Activities or expenses that have already taken place at the time of application are ineligible for funding. 9. Applicants must be in good community and legal standing according to the assessments of the Wikimedia Foundation's Trust & Safety Team and the Community Resources Team.See details https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn#Behavioral_requirements. 10. Applicants (including individuals and groups involved with the application) must be in compliance with all current and past grant agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation. They must not have any late, past due, or incomplete grant reports. 11. Applicants that repeatedly do not respond to requests for information about their applications or grants, or who have mismanaged past grants or applications may be made ineligible for future grants.
Bottom line... 1) if you are already an involved member of a group, which is already either funded by a rapid grant or by an annual grant, you better rely on the group. If you want to act separately, you will have to explain why. 2) if you are member of a group, but this group does not plan to make a rapid grant to WMF because they are not interested neither to participate, nor to a do a grant request, I strongly advise that you do an individual request 3) if you live in a country where there is a group, but you are either in bad relationship with them, or living very far away, or for whatever reason, you prefer to organise something for Wiki Loves Africa without them, an individual request may be okay as well 4) and last, if you are isolated in a country with no group... then of course, you better do an individual request
I think that as long as you explain the situation and the explanation is reasonable, that should not be an issue

Hi
That's a good question... and not one easy to answer....
So we have affiliated usergroups. Those are easy to track : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_user_groups Recent news (for new groups) : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_movement_affiliates/Noticeboard
Then there are unaffiliated usergroups... and I do not know if there is anything that would look like a list anywhere... Usually... one get to know about them through the following means * sometimes you discuss with someone on the wiki... and just like that... you learn about a new group... * sometimes someone show up in a telegram channel and you hear about it * or you may dig into all those who asked for a rapid grant in the past : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Browse_applications
Then there are non affiliated usergroup in the process of being affiliated. Normally, you can find them from those categories * https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikimedia_User_Group_Application_Un... * https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:New_Wikimedia_User_Group_Applicatio... * https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikimedia_User_group_Applications_P... (I do not know why there are 3... one or two must be outdated)
For example, last year... I came accross this one... https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Commons_Photographers_User_Group
But if I were new from a country with no knowledge... I would simply ask in several places. On this list... on telegram... on country portal pages on wikipedia... and if there is a group... I guess you'll finally bump into them ?
Cheers
PS: good question. So I copied my answer here as well :

Hello, I have a question to ask and it goes like this. 1. Who decided what and how much is given in a country? Examples wikilovesafrica give a 3rd place winner $500 2nd place $700 and 3rd place $1000.
3. What standard price is given to local prize winners in each country?
4. If the cash prize is there a standard prize to awarded all over.
My suggestion is there should be a fixed prize that should be awarded across all countries participating
Aside cash prizes should be related to something photography.
I think thinks like this should be rectified to motivate participation.
Thank you

Hello, I have a question to ask and it goes like this. 1. Who decided what and how much is given in a country? Examples wikilovesafrica give a 3rd place winner $500 2nd place $700 and 3rd place $1000.
3. What standard price is given to local prize winners in each country?
4. If the cash prize is there a standard prize to awarded all over.
My suggestion is there should be a fixed prize that should be awarded across all countries participating
Aside cash prizes should be related to something photography.
I think thinks like this should be rectified to motivate participation.
Thank you.

Usually... one get to know about them through the following means
- sometimes you discuss with someone on the wiki... and just like that...
you learn about a new group...
- sometimes someone show up in a telegram channel and you hear about it
- or you may dig into all those who asked for a rapid grant in the past :
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Browse_applications
Then there are non affiliated usergroup in the process of being affiliated. Normally, you can find them from those categories
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikimedia_User_Group_Application_Un...
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:New_Wikimedia_User_Group_Applicatio...
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikimedia_User_group_Applications_P... (I do not know why there are 3... one or two must be outdated)
For example, last year... I came accross this one... https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Commons_Photographers_User_Group
But if I were new from a country with no knowledge... I would simply ask in several places. On this list... on telegram... on country portal pages on wikipedia... and if there is a group... I guess you'll finally bump into them ?
Cheers
PS: good question. So I copied my answer here as well : Le 06/12/2021 à 04:45, Collins Musonda a écrit :

- Individuals, groups, and organizations may apply.
- Any individual, group, or organization is allowed up to three (3)
open Project Grants and Rapid Grants at any one time. See details https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn#Details_on_grant_limit . 9. Applicants must be in good community and legal standing according to the assessments of the Wikimedia Foundation's Trust & Safety Team and the Community Resources Team. See details https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn#Behavioral_requirements .
- if you are already an involved member of a group, which is already
either funded by a rapid grant or by an annual grant, you better rely on the group.

Hello Amuzujoe
Isla has answered your question on the Telegram group.
For the sake of transparency, let me copy here what she wrote
Isla Haddow-Flood, [7 Dec 2021 at 11:09:18]: Heya @amuzujoe ... I will try to answer your questions ... 1. The international prize is decided by how much funding is received (we are trying to increase the prize for next year, we will keep you posted). For any national prizes ... local teams decide how much they wish the prizes to be. That is up to the local team. It also doesnt have to be (and possibly shouldn't be) money. 2. We haven't done an assessment of each prize per country or an average as that is entirely up to the local community - what works best for that community. The international team is not involved in how the local community wishes to organise itself. It is up to you, as a group. 3. No standard, as said above. Entirely up to the local team and what is suitable. They can decide not to have a local prize and that is absolutely okay with us. They must do whatever they are comfortable with doing.
We disagree. Some local teams/communities wish to hold national prizes. Some do not. And that is fine ... For example, some communities might be languaged based and might feel that a local prize is not necessary - that they would rather focus on community events and recording their local culture than spending their money on prizes. Others might decide they just want to work with local photographers, and that prizes are inappropriate but an exhibition - or local visibility - might be more valuable to that community. It is up to them. We will never dictate what they wish to do or how they wish to run their side of the contest.
But we will help you facilitate your plan - what ever it is.
P.S. We absolutely feel that local photographic vouchers or software as prizes are very appropriate. Unfortunately, just not as a continental or international prize. we have previously offered vouchers and photoshop subscriptions before at the international level and this is just not feasible on such a scale - most photographers already have photoshop or the equivalent, and amazon or another space doesn't go to every country - not even South africa easily. So it is very difficult from an international aspect. but easier from a local one.
-------
To which I will add that prizes funded through Rapid Grant are asked (by the WMF) to not be cash (but only services, products, voucher, subscription etc.). Now, I have no idea whether that rule is strictly followed or not.

To which I will add that prizes funded through Rapid Grant are asked (by the WMF) to not be cash (but only services, products, voucher, subscription etc.). Now, I have no idea whether that rule is strictly followed or not.

Hello, I have a question to ask and it goes like this.
- Who decided what and how much is given in a country?
Examples wikilovesafrica give a 3rd place winner $500 2nd place $700 and 3rd place $1000.
What standard price is given to local prize winners in each country?
If the cash prize is there a standard prize to awarded all over.
My suggestion is there should be a fixed prize that should be awarded across all countries participating
Aside cash prizes should be related to something photography.
I think thinks like this should be rectified to motivate participation.
Thank you.

Usually... one get to know about them through the following means
- sometimes you discuss with someone on the wiki... and just like
that... you learn about a new group...
- sometimes someone show up in a telegram channel and you hear about it
- or you may dig into all those who asked for a rapid grant in the past
: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Browse_applications
Then there are non affiliated usergroup in the process of being affiliated. Normally, you can find them from those categories
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikimedia_User_Group_Application_Un...
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:New_Wikimedia_User_Group_Applicatio...
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wikimedia_User_group_Applications_P... (I do not know why there are 3... one or two must be outdated)
For example, last year... I came accross this one... https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Commons_Photographers_User_Group
But if I were new from a country with no knowledge... I would simply ask in several places. On this list... on telegram... on country portal pages on wikipedia... and if there is a group... I guess you'll finally bump into them ?
Cheers
PS: good question. So I copied my answer here as well : Le 06/12/2021 à 04:45, Collins Musonda a écrit :
Hi Flo,
Thanks for the "bottom line" info. Where does one check if groups are available in the area he/she lives in?

It is worth it to read the criteria and guidelines here : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn Eligibility criteria[edit https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn&veaction=edit§ion=1 | edit source https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn&action=edit§ion=1 ]
- Individuals, groups, and organizations may apply.
- Any individual, group, or organization is allowed up to three
(3) open Project Grants and Rapid Grants at any one time. See details https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn#Details_on_grant_limit . 9. Applicants must be in good community and legal standing according to the assessments of the Wikimedia Foundation's Trust & Safety Team and the Community Resources Team. See details https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Rapid/Learn#Behavioral_requirements .
- if you are already an involved member of a group, which is already
either funded by a rapid grant or by an annual grant, you better rely on the group.
