Hi,
An Icelandic language Wikinews exists in incubator at
http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wn/is . It would be really great if
this could become active enough to move off Incubator and go live. The
process requires several months of active activity. It would be another
way Icelandic Wikimedians can engage with the Wikimedia movement. It might
also be useful as a project Planning Wikimedia Ísland could claim as
evidence of programming.
Original reporting done in Icelandic would be able to be easily picked up
by other languages. (Thus reaching a bigger audience.) If content ideas
are wanting, early contributions can be done by translating from other
Wikinews projects. (English, Spanish, French, Russian are pretty active
with usually at least one story a day.) The greater Wikinews community
would be willing to assist the project in whatever way Icelandic speakers
required.
To contributor to the incubator version of Icelandic Wikinews, you just
have to treat it like it is not on incubator, but all the page names need
to have the prefix Wn/is/ . You need to chose your test wiki at
preference, and then you will get the proper search results, and links to
this wiki's main page and in the sidebar for RecentChanges. Also, since
all the internal links must have the prefix, it is useful to enable the
gadget that automatically adds it to the links (but not to the templates).
Sincerely,
Laura HAle
