Dear Svavar,

Hope you are doing well.

I would like to update you on the status of Wikimedia Island's
application as a chapter.
As you may know, the Affiliations Committee has forwarded a
recommendation to the Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees to
approve Wikimedia Iceland as a chapter. The Board has final authority in
these matters.

The Board has, however, decided not to act on our recommendation, and
instead has decided to announce on Wednesday  that going forward it
would only approve chapters after they have been active as a user group
for a minimum period of two years. Unfortunately, the Board has decided
that this decision should apply to all on-going applications including
that of Wikimedia Iceland.

What this means is that while we continue to fully believe in you and
the potential an Icelandic chapter would have in furthering the mission,
we cannot contradict the Board's decision. We are ready to recognize
your group as a Wikimedia User Group immediately and provide you
continued support for your work.

We share the frustration this decision is causing, and hope that you
will still continue working towards furthering the Wikimedia mission.
Please discuss this within your group, and let us know if you would be
open to being recognized as a Wikimedia user group for now (you would
need to adapt your name slightly to Wikimedians of Iceland Community
User Group, or similar[1])
