Has anyone floated the idea of a second "diff' button on Special:Watchlist to cover a slightly longer period?
I was just thinking this could do two things: 1.) Make it easier to catch vandalism, and 2.) Promote review of changes in general.
I don't do much vandalism patrol, but I think one reason pages lose quality in general is that tracking long watchlists is too difficult. You either check every edit, or if you don't, then you have to navigate through page histories which requires a.) several clicks and b.) recalling when you were last up to date.
If so, a longer one-click option would seem beneficial. Something like 10 or 20 edits, maybe (or even adjustable, like the watchlist's length). Thoughts?

Someone might be able to write some js as a user script that does what you ask. Perhaps ask around on WT:BOT, or WT:SCRIPTS

I do it this way on my watchlist. Rather than check everything, I sometimes compare an article now, to when I last saw it, and look for material added and removed, changes etc. Then if there is a serious reduction in quality on some section, I can help to propose additions to fix it. I find that approach fairly time efficient.

That's true, although I was thinking more of the systemic benefit than strictly for myself.
I'd just been reading an article, actually, which suggested that every page averages two watchlists, and that this ensures that articles are constantly monitored to uphold quality. I'm guessing that this overestimates what people are doing, but then it also suggests the question of how to promote more productive review of changes. I recall another article suggesting that Wikipedia should make it easier to visualize changes to articles over time.
I'm sure plenty of buttons would be useful, but considering there's also the problem of bad edits getting buried under more recent changes, it occurs that making it easier to see changes short or medium term may be one pretty simple way to reduce the amount of problem editing that slips through.
Maybe I'll ask about a script in any case.
