But the real problem with keeping RfD is that there is no way of
calling attention to the discussions on the few occasions when a issue
does arise. This leaves such decisions in the hands of the junkies,
for who else would visit regularly?

Or just simply list it on MFD. I still don't get why we have this page for
redirect discussion. Redirects are fundamentally useful, fairly unimportant
things that should be included wherever possible. Redirects are the obvious
exception to my usual deletionism. Delete offensive and silly stuff wherever
found - why the need for RFD?
I share David's sentiments on this. Some
practices are mysteriously
guided by something greater than rationality. Keeping these people
occupied with looking for pots of steam is a means of keeping them away
from things that really matter. ;-)
