Hi all,
Just a heads up to say that Wikidata will get its new Main page early next week, and this is a final call for you to leave any last-minute concerns you may have (at least before it goes live).
The full announcement on Project Chat, including a summary outlining the major changes and links to feedback received from the community can be found here: http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Project_chat#The_new_Main_page_is_comi...
You can see also preview what the new Main page will look like at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Portal_Redesign/draft
This looks really cool! I haven't really been paying attention (sorry!), so let me know if there's a better place to leave my feedback, or if something has already been discussed.
* How do you plan on localizing the black banner with English words in it? MediaWiki supports localized SVGs if I remember correctly, but doesn't have a method to translate them (E:TranslateSvg hasn't been deployed yet). * If the JS is slow to load, the collapsible box of languages will be open, and then close, leading the page to shift weirdly. * The currently featured tool doesn't support HTTPS, which is something that would be really nice to have when this goes live. I would suggest switching to a different tool until that can be fixed. * I feel uncomfortable linking to Facebook/Twitter/etc. on the main page. * Will translations be prepared before the major switch happens?
All that said, the new design looks fantastic :) -- Legoktm
