Thanks for the advice, Lydia, we'll see what we can do. Meanwhile, info about the task
force timing will be welcome. Or at least a notice, when it's about to close...
Cheers,
Antoine

Hi Lydia (and congrats!!)
Thanks!
I don't remember the specifics of the Commons
issue, I was not really in it
(I cc my colleague David Haskiya to correct me if I'm writing too much
crap). But basically I think it was because the templates were not much open
for additions of data fields.
Which might be related to the issue Daniel mentioned also in [1]: that data
about artworks, creators etc fit well on Wikidata but data about digital
files fit better on Commons. In the GLAMWiki project now, somehow everything
has to be packed together in the existing Commons template.
Ok I fear this needs someone to help you then who has more knowledge
about Commons. There are a few people on this list who can probably
chime in.
Now, if there are alternatives that allow us (or
more precisely, whoever
decides to upload an object mediated by Europeana into Commons) to send more
complete descriptive data in Wikidata that somehow ends up being connected
to the media data in Commons, that would be good.
I'm not really into this--I assume that you guys are much closer to the
thing ;-)
Meanwhile, David and I have seen that you have work in progress in task
forces on art works [2,3].
If we find the time Europeana could try to contribute to this. It can ensure
we can feed more data into Commons, when the time has come.
I would indeed start on the discussion page there. The people there
are interested in the topic and knowledgeable about Wikidata. Go for
it!
But: we are really tight on resources this day,
and it's quite unclear, what
the timing is, for the discussion in this task force!
Activity really varies between the task forces. I don't know how it is
with this one unfortunately.
Cheers
Lydia
