Hi Lea, Lydia and All,

I just posted a call for volunteers to facilitate this creation of an online wiki South Africa University for free CC-4 MIT OCW-centric degrees' workshop, (since I won't be able to make this due to a lack of finances):

Online wiki universities in South Africa and ... for free online best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare degrees[edit]

Seeking volunteers in South Africa to facilitate a workshop at Wikimania about developing online wiki universities in South Africa and in each of all African countries for free online best STEM CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare degree in official/main languages, and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in each of all Africa's languages. This would occur via South Africa World University and School here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/South_Africa (and other African countries accessible from here -https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States). Languages are/will be accessible from here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages - in each of all African languages. World Univ. and Sch. - worlduniversityandschool.org - donated itself to Wikidata/Wikibase in 2015 for co-development, and got a new WUaS Miraheze Mediawiki last year in these regards too. (I won't be able to attend due to lack of finances). Multiple creative educational wiki opportunities involved with this project. WUaS is planning to offer online MIT OpenCourseWare-centric Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, International Baccalaureate high school, and online Medical degrees, with online teaching hospitals for clinical care - again with Wikidata/Wikibase structured knowledge database - and in each of all African countries' official main languages. “Bridging knowledge gaps, the *ubuntu* way forward.” If someone would like to submit a workshop proposal please let me know at info@worlduniversityandschool.org, and I'll help co-develop this remotely. Thanks. --Scott WorldUnivAndSch (talk) 23:59, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Please keep me in the loop if you hear of any volunteers who might be interested.

Cheers, Scott

Hello all,

This is a friendly reminder, you have a bit more than two weeks to think about submissions for Wikimania :)

Note: the submission system this year is not public. You won't be able to see other's proposals. Therefore, I encourage you to discuss about your ideas related to Wikidata on this page, see what is already proposed, and add your own proposal on this page as well.

Cheers,

If you have any idea regarding Wikidata, if you plan to submit something, if you're looking for people to help with running a workshop... feel free to coordinate on Wikidata:Wikimania 2018.

The deadline for all kind of submissions is March 18th, pretty soon already. Don't miss it!

Dear Wikimedia community,

We are pleased to announce that Wikimania 2018 is now accepting proposals for workshops, discussions, presentations, or research posters to give during the conference. To read the full instructions visit the event wiki and click on the link provided there to make your proposal:
https://wikimania2018.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions

The deadline for submissions is 23:59 UTC on Sunday March 18, 2018.
This is approximately 6 weeks away. Whether you are a community member of one of the Wikimedia projects, or a fellow open content creator or consumer, we welcome your proposal for a session.

Theme
This year, the conference will be taking place in Cape Town, South Africa, where the organisers are giving this Wikimania a unique flavor — an explicit theme based in African philosophy:

“Bridging knowledge gaps, the ubuntu way forward.”
Read more about this theme, why it was chosen, and what it means for the conference program at the Wikimedia blog:

Throughout the conference program, this theme will be tightly held, but loosely defined - in order to encourage a diverse range of responses to the theme. It is our hope that this theme will give us the opportunity to further our goal of creating the “sum of human knowledge”, by encouraging greater diversity and inclusion in who participates and what we discuss at Wikimania.

To learn more, and to make a proposal for the conference, please visit:
https://wikimania2018.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions

Please forward this announcement to other lists and groups across the Wikimedia movement.

We look forward to reading your submissions. Sincerely,

Program committee co-chairs Emna Mizouni, Felix Nartey, and Liam Wyatt.
