Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce that starting today, mobile statement editing is
available as a beta feature on Wikidata.
Following your feedback from our earlier prototypes, we’re now rolling out
live editing for String and Wikibase Entity ID datatypes directly in the
mobile view. This marks a big step toward making contributing to Wikidata
easier and more accessible for editors using mobile devices.
How you can help us refine
-
Enable the Beta feature: Go to your Preferences --> Beta features -->
check "Edit Wikidata Items on mobile devices" and save.
-
Try mobile editing: Visit the Wikidata Item Wikidata Sandbox (Q4115189)
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q4115189> on your mobile device (or use
mobile view on your desktop)
-
Test the edits: Try editing statements with the supported String and
Wikibase Entity ID datatypes
-
Share your feedback: Tell us what works, what doesn’t, and what you’d
like to see next on the project discussion page: Mobile editing of
statements
<https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:Usability_and_usefulness/Item_e…>
Please note: This initial release supports only String and Entity ID
datatypes. Support for additional datatypes will follow in upcoming
releases.
If you’re interested in participating in deeper testing or user interviews
with our UX team, sign up here
<https://greatquestion.co/wikimediadeutschland/bo2e7e2a/apply> to join our
mobile editing testing group.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi Everyone,
We are preparing a new open-source edition of Virtuoso that introduces a
feature specifically designed to serve this community.
This feature provides syntax-level compatibility with the SERVICE
wikibase:label extension, enabling queries written for Wikidata’s
Wikidata Query Service to run seamlessly on Virtuoso.
In practical terms, this means developers can reuse existing SPARQL
queries that rely on SERVICE wikibase:label—without needing to rewrite
label-handling logic—while benefiting from Virtuoso’s performance,
sophistication, and deployment flexibility.
*Example Query:*
PREFIX wikibase: <http://wikiba.se/ontology#>
PREFIX bd: <http://www.bigdata.com/rdf#>
PREFIX mwapi: <http://www.mediawiki.org/ontology#API/>
PREFIX rdfs: <http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#>
SELECT ?entity ?label WHERE {
SERVICE wikibase:mwapi {
bd:serviceParam wikibase:api "Search" .
bd:serviceParam mwapi:srsearch "machine learning" .
?entity wikibase:apiOutput mwapi:title .
}
# Fetch label from Wikidata (requires federated query or local data)
OPTIONAL { ?entity rdfs:label ?label . FILTER(LANG(?label) = "en") }
} LIMIT 5

Hi GLAM-Wiki community,
I was asked to share this opportunity with you. It's also available for
international candidates, and they offer a cost-of-living/relocation
stipend. Good luck! :)
*Opportunity: Open Data Internship at the National Gallery of Art*
Academic Year Internships page:
https://www.nga.gov/employment-opportunities/academic-year-internships
<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.nga.gov_employment…>
.
Program basics:
- Deadline: April 6, 2026 by 5:00pm ET
- Dates: September 22, 2026 – May 15, 2027 (34 weeks), full-time
- Compensation: Total stipend amount is $34,353.60 + $6,868
cost-of-living stipend (disbursed during the year)
- How to apply: applicants must apply through the National Gallery’s
online application portal (no email submissions)
We're particularly interested in applicants with interests/backgrounds in
digital/cultural heritage areas. A short description follows for the open
data internship project we're hoping to place:
*Digital Solutions and the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts
seek an intern to experiment with public data services and to develop
strategies for Open Data and Wikimedia for National Gallery of Art
collections of artworks and archives. We want to expand our GitHub presence
to offer a “Lab Space” for experimental projects that create new,
open-source tools to discover artworks, archives, and library collections.
The intern will be part of a dynamic, cross-department team and will
directly support data mapping and reconciliation projects. They will also
collect and analyze student and user input about preferences and requests
for the current Open Data presence and for future iterations. Starting from
experiments and learning, together we will work across departments towards
drafting a publishable article or research paper about the experience
and lessons learned for GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and
Museums).*
If anyone has questions, feel free to share emails for our Digital Research
Officer Matt Westerby (m-westerby(a)nga.gov), myself as Manager for Analytics
and Enterprise Architecture (k-krut(a)nga.gov), and our Manager of
Pre-Professional Programs George Luna-Pena (g-luna-pena(a)nga.gov).
