Help with SPARQL or API or something to get subcategories

Hello team :) So while I'm helping with the Wikidata - Schema.org mappings, a request came in to expose subcategories of an existing Wikipedia category. For example, say I start with this topic: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q27119725 Parking facilities The topic's main category is shown as "Category:Parking facilities" and that has links to Wikipedia, specifically a Wikipedia category link, and where the WP category page has subcategories that I would like to expose somehow in whichever way is *easiest* currently with our tools, apis, etc. Can it all be done in SPARQL against some services that already expose WP subcategories given a specific category ? Or is there an API that does this already ? other tools that might expose WP categories ? Terms - search for corresponding WD-item and WP-article

Dear Wikidata specialists, I have a list with 5000 English terms, which are translated to several languages (including the corresponding WP-language-shortcut). Now I look for the corresponding WP-article (as URL). How can I search the corresponding *WD-item*? As result I need a table with the columns: - Term in English - WD-item How can I build the *WP-URL* for the language-specific WP-article? Input: - Term in Englisch - WD-item - WP-language-shortcut Best regards, Markus Examples: Aberration of light Abyssal hills Aerial photograph Age of diurnal inequality Aperture of antenna Languages can be all WP-languages.

Using wikibase for creating structured vocabularies collaboratively

Dear all, We had a discussion about tools that allow for creating ontologies (or at least structured vocabularies) collaboratively in the context of terminology curation in the biological domain. Some people were in favor for Semantic MediaWiki, which made me wonder if there are other projects than Wikidata that are using Wikibase for structuring their data. I would be very interested in learning about experiences when setting up and using Wikibase locally. I have neither set up Semantic MediaWiki or Wikibase myself yet, and a better comparison of the two design principles behind the tools from a user’s perspective would be great. If you have any link, information, article to share in this direction, I would be happy because I couldn’t find anything by myself. Query Help - Stock Symbols and Wikipedia Pages

Changes to the wikitext output of the action=wbformatvalue API

Hey folks, we will soon change how Wikibase outputs data as Wikitext per default. This might affect users of the "action=wbformatvalue" API that either use "generate=text/x-wiki" or omit the "generate" parameter (Wikitext output is the default for that API module). I briefly looked through our API logs in order to see how many users will be affected by this and found that no one uses this feature[0]. Please note that for our internal functionality (like the property parser function, or the Lua functionality), we made sure that the output wont change. GLAMpipe metadata manipulation & upload tool is an extensible, open source web-application for cultural metadata. It is aimed for data-savvy wikimedians and data partners. It gives the user the power of bots without the need to code. Nodes are the building blocks of the data flow. A node can act as a data source, it can split, combine, create wikitext or process data in other ways, and a node can export data to files or web services like Wikimedia Commons or Wikidata. Nodes can be created, altered and shared by the users, making it possible to build upon work by others. We are applying for a grant from the Wikimedia Foundation to create an online, collaborative version and the nodes for preparing and importing data to Wikidata. Changing the datatype of a property in test.wikidata.org

Hi, I'd like to run integration tests using test.wikidata.org[1] and the "subclass of" property. Unfortunately it already exist ... with a datatype that is different from what wikidata.org has (wikibase-item)[2]. It does not seem to be possible to change that via the API[3]. Deleting a property does not seem possible either. asked a month ago in the thread "Deleting properties / items in test.wikidata.org". It's not an absolute blocker: I can add code so that "subclass of" is a random string instead when test.wikidata.org is used. But before doing that and making integration tests more difficult to debug and implement, I'd like to be sure I'm not missing something. How do you suggest I deal with this problem ?
