What are best practices to represent in Wikidata alternate services that can be used to look up the same identifier?
For example:
- a PDB ID can be looked up via PDBe or RCSB.
- a Pubmed ID can be looked up via PubMed or EuropePMC etc.
Is the expectation that I should add all relevant services as separate Formatter URLs to the corresponding property?
Dario
Hello, thank you for providing Wikidata RDF. The effort is very much
appreciated.
I found that Wikidata RDF in N-Triples format has an encoding issue
with non ASCII characters.
Because RDF 1.1 N-Triples format no longer has 'ASCII only'
restriction, it is desirable to use characters directly as in Turtle
format, not using Unicode escape sequences (\uHHHH).
If, for some reasons, escape is necessary, it should be '\u' followed
by Unicode code point, not UTF-8 octets. For example, Kanji character
'位' should be '位', not '位'. Current Wikidata RDF
NT is provided in the latter form, which makes non ASCII characters
garbages.
I hope this issue is not very difficult to fix.
cheers,

Hey folks :)
I'll be doing an office hour on IRC for all things Wikidata. It'll be
on December 3rd at 18:00 UTC. We'll be meeting in #wikimedia-office on
freenode.
Hope to see many of you there!
Cheers

Bairro (Q16837104) has the English description: "a Portuguese word that refers
to a community or region within a city or municipality". It is a subclass of
neighbourhood (Q123705).
There are many neighbourhoods in Brazil with the 'instance of' property set to
bairro (Q16837104), for example: Gamboa (Q3757943), Riachuelo (Q3934201) and
Noal (Q10337174).
Q16837104 includes sitelinks to enwiki and trwiki, but not to ptwiki. There is
a Bairro article on Portuguese Wikipedia, represented by the Wikidata item
neighbourhood (Q123705).
It would be useful if bairro (Q16837104) could include a sitelink to the bairro
article in Portuguese Wikipedia, but this is forbidden because it is already
linked to from another item.
In English Wikipedia we have articles describing two concepts, neighbourhood
and bairro, but in Portuguese Wikipedia there is only a single article for the
concept of neighbourhood.
There is another item, barrio (Q1761572), for the Spanish variant of this
word.
It would be useful if we could add a way to represent loan words in Wikidata.
Then we can add a statement that says Bairro (Q16837104) is a loan word of
neighbourhood (Q123705) in Portuguese.

Hey folks :)
We just enabled statements on properties. You can for example use this to:
* describe mappings to other projects' vocabularies
* indicate constraints for the usage of this property (currently
stored in templates on the talk page of the property)
* store information about where this property is used in other
projects to make sure they can be notified when major changes are made
to how the property is used
* provide links to extensive documentation about and showcases for the
usage of this property
* store patterns for how an identifier should be expanded to form a proper URL
* ...
Some notes:
* You can't yet make statements linking to other properties to for
example indicate that property X is the inverse of property Y. We are
adding a new datatype for that. It'll come soon. The ticket for that
is https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T75302
* Constraint violation reports currently don't take these statements
into account. They will continue to use the templates on the
property's talk page. A team of students is currently working on
overhauling the whole constraint system. It'll take them a while still
though.
Unrelated but also important for you to know: If a page is deleted on
Wikipedia/Commons/... that has a sitelink in an item on Wikidata that
link will be removed automatically now.

Hey folks :)
The student team working on data quality and trust is hard at work and
just showed me a first demo. I wanted to share that with you as well.
One part of the team is working on checking Wikidata's data against
other databases. Attached is a screenshot of their first demo showing
checking of our data against MusicBrainz. In the end this will be
nicely integrated on Wikidata as part of the constraint violation
reports probably. This is already working way better than I expected
it ever would. So heads off to the students. I'm sure they'll kick ass
over the next months.
Cheers

Hi Lydia and Wikidatans,
Besides the Wikidata Items and Statements' Tutorials here -
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Tours -
when might the other tutorials mentioned on this Wikidata Tours' page - for
References, Qualifiers, Ranks, Special Values, for example - be coming, and
especially inter-lingually ?
Thanks,
Scott

Hey folks :)
As announced the week before last we just enabled data access for
Commons. This does not yet include access to information from
arbitrary items but only the item that is directly connected to the
page using the data via a sitelink. Please help with polishing the
relevant pages https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wikidata and
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Wikimedia_Commons.
What will come later: arbitrary access (in January/February) and
storing meta data about individual files (part of the ongoing work on
the structured data on Commons project)
Tomorrow we will enable statements on properties so you can store
mappings to other database vocabularies for example.
Cheers
Lydia
