Hi all.
With today's deployment, the Wikibase API modules used on wikidata.org will
change from using lower-case IDs (q12345) to upper-case IDs (Q12345). This is
done for consistency with the way IDs are shown in the UI and used in URLs.
The API will continue to accept entity IDs in lower-case as well as upper-case.
Any bot or other client that has no property or item IDs hardcoded or configured
in lower case should be fine.
If however your code looks for some specific item or property in the output
returned from the API, and it's using a lower-case ID to do so, it may now fail
to match the respective ID.
There is potential for similar problems with Lua code, depending on how the data
structure is processed by Lua. We are working to minimize the impact there.
Sorry for the short notice.
Please test your code against test.wikidata.org and let us know if you find any
issues.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi all,
About Wiktionary and Wikidata, Hartz proposed at
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata_talk:Wiktionary#First_and_second_pha…
to "be pragmatic and just import the interwiki links". I agree.
I suggested in the same page that we could have items for Wiktionary where sitelinks would use the label of the item for the sitelink-titles. Is this feasible? I'm not highly knowledgeable about Wikidata, but I suppose this kind of modification shouldn't be too difficult.
What do you think? Please come discuss this matter in the link above.
Have a good day,
Darkdadaah @ fr.wiktionary
Heya folks :)
We just deployed new code and I am really happy to tell you that the
URL datatype is finally available now. Wohoooo! I heard the first
properties with the URL datatype have already been created. Maybe
someone can link them here. I hope you will be able to make good use
of it. Please let me know of any issues you find.
Additionally we had to deploy a breaking change to the API. Most bots
and other tools should already be fixed but there might be some left
that need a small change. For more details about this please see this
email by Daniel:

Hello All ,
i'm working on adding some properties mappings between DBpedia and
Wikidata properties [1]
when i started to add mappings for DBpedia properties whose datatypes are
numbers in the xsd format and some other DBpedia properties that their
values are in numbers also but their datatypes in are standard units like :
- xsd:Integer
- xsd:Float
- xsd:Boolean
- http://dbpedia.org/datatype/kilogram
- http://dbpedia.org/datatype/metre
i noticed that Wikidata doesn't contain equivalent properties for such
DBpedia properties.
this includes all properties like : Height , area , weight , mass and
population number
my Question is, are those properties missing just because no one considered
adding them or they don't exist intentionally because Wikidata doesn't have
Datatypes for numbers yet ? so for example we are going to see claims in
the future on this form ?
"m":[
"value",
222,
"Integer",
165
],
thanks
Regards

I am not sure if this has been discussed on-site, if so, apologies.
Many items on Wikidata do not have a short description. That's not really
an issue if you look at a single item, but for item lists (e.g. search
results) or "predictive search" drop-down boxes, descriptions can be quite
helpful.
I believe that, for items that have basic claims/statements, short
descriptions can be generated automatically, for supported languages. If we
have "person", "Belgian", "painter", and birth/death year, a sentence like
"Belgian painter (1900-2000)" can be constructed. Some awards (Nobel prize,
Victoria cross, etc.) could be added.
That would require a lot of language-specific hacking (e.g. "Nationality:
Belgium" => "Belgian"). So, if this would be a useful feature, should this
be done
* in PHP, pre-computed on every change to the item
* in PHP, on-the-fly
* in JavaScript, on-the-fly
JavaScript would probably be the most flexible solution, but might be too
slow (round-trip for multiple items, property names, etc.).
Your thoughts please!
Magnus
Heya folks :)
Have a look at what happened around Wikidata this week:

Hello all,
in preparation of next week's deployment to Wikidata.org,
test.wikidata.orgnow has the new datatype URL deployed.
If you have the time, we would appreciate if you tested it and let us know
about errors and problems.
The URL datatype should be a big step in allowing to introduce better
sourcing and reliability of the content of Wikidata.
Cheers,
Denny

I am sure most of this list does not need it, but if anyone knows someone
in the UK who might be interested, there'll be a session in London at the
end of the month.
Andrew.

Hi all,
There will be a Wikidata training workshop on Saturday 28 September at
Development House. The event will be led by Addshore, who is part of the
Wikidata development team. As a volunteer, he is an administrator on the
project. Places are limited, if you would like to attend, please sign up on
