Dear Wikibase Cloud Community,
We're currently working to expand and improve the process around the Wikidata Query Service (WDQS) allowlist—the list of external SPARQL endpoints that WDQS can federate queries to. The reason why we focus on endpoints at this stage, is because we are motivated to make federation as easy as possible for those who struggled with it in the past but also for those who would like to do more of it. To get a better understanding of what this experience shall look like, we would like to learn more about how you made use of the current allowlist as well as what didn't work out for you.
If you’ve been waiting to get an endpoint added or have tried and failed in the past, now is the time to let us know.
We're especially interested in:
-
Endpoints you use regularly but can’t federate to from WDQS -
Wikibases you manage (e.g., on Cloud or Suite) that you’d like to nominate -
Endpoints that were proposed before but never got added
You can share your proposals by creating a ticket on Phabricator using this template https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/maniphest/task/edit/form/1/?title=Add%20%5Bendpoint%5D%20to%20WDQS%20allowlist&description=%2F%2FDescribe%20your%20request%20here.%20You%20should%20at%20least%20include%20the%20following%20information%3A%2F%2F%0D%0A%0D%0A*%20project%20homepage%0D%0A*%20motivation%20for%20adding%20it%0D%0A*%20SPARQL%20endpoint%20URL%0D%0A*%20project%20license%20information&projects=Wikidata-Query-Service&parent=402897 .
If you’re struggling to make the request this way, also feel free to just drop us an email at anton.kokh@wikimedia.de. Make sure to include:
-
A link to the dataset/project homepage -
Motivating for adding it -
SPARQL endpoint URL -
Information about the dataset/project’s license.
You can keep track of these in a dedicated ticket, where we will list all incoming requests: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T402893.
Thanks for helping us make query federation more useful and adaptive! Valerie on behalf of Wikibase Cloud Community Communications Manager Wikibase
