Dear Wikibase Community,
We're excited to release a new patch update for Wikibase Suite that
includes a critical MediaWiki security update, a critical fix for the Query
Service Updater, and support for custom Query Service examples.
This release updates the images to:
-
Deploy 7.1.0
-
Wikibase Image 7.1.0
-
WDQS Image 2.1.1
-
WDQS Frontend Image 2.1.1
MediaWiki security update
This release includes the latest MediaWiki security patch
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T431455>.
-
New Wikibase Suite installations include this update by default.
-
Existing Wikibase Suite 7 users can apply it by following the minor and
patch update instructions
<https://github.com/wmde/wikibase-release-pipeline/blob/main/deploy/docs/upd…>
-
There is a related announcement
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/hyperkitty/list/mediawiki-announce@lists.wikime…>
by Wikimedia Foundation.
Query Service Updater fix
We've fixed a long-standing issue
<https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T354266> affecting the Query Service
Updater. This improvement makes the service more reliable and addresses a
problem that has been reported by users over time.
Custom Query Service examples
You can now replace the default Wikidata query examples with your own,
similar to how query examples work in Wikibase Cloud. We have a
related Phabricator
ticket <https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T428434>.
Important: This feature adds a new wiki page that stores your query
examples. The Query Service automatically reads this page and displays the
examples in the interface. Documentation for this feature is coming soon.
We recommend updating to this release to benefit from these security,
stability, and usability improvements.
InstallationNew installation
To install Wikibase Suite Deploy, follow the instructions in our
documentation
<https://github.com/wmde/wikibase-release-pipeline/tree/main/deploy#initial-…>
.

Hi everyone,
July is shaping up to be a very exciting month for the GLAM, culture and
heritage community and the Wikimedia movement at large!
Wikimania is taking place in Paris from 21-26 July, with numerous GLAM
related activities taking place throughout the days, including a culture +
heritage focused meetup taking place on 23 July.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:M%C3%A9lange_%E2%80%94_A_Content_Part…
The following week is the monthly global GLAM Call, on Tuesday 28 July at
13:30 UTC. Be sure to register in advance via the meta-wiki page. This
month there will be discussions and presentations about GLAM + gender, a UN
Resolution on Reparative Justice, the GLAM User Group, and the GLAM Tool
Hospital.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:Global_GLAM_call_2026-07-28#Agenda
As a reminder you can always submit proposals and request topics via the
forms on Meta-wiki as well, and watch the recordings from previous calls at
anytime.
Best,
Connor

Dear all,
Hope this email finds you well! The Content Partnerships Hub is bringing an
in-person Helpdesk to Wikimania this year and we’d love for you to stop by.
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Content_Partnerships_Hub
The Helpdesk is designed to support any member of the Wikimedia community
to make a content partnership successful. This could be uploading content,
creating meta data structures, drafting a project plan together, or
supporting a new partner with their uncertainties with Wiki-tools and
platforms or even copyright clearance.
This is your opportunity to talk to an expert directly and get your
questions answered. Book an appointment now, or stop by the Helpdesk in
Foyer S2 during Thursday, 23 July.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
Best,
Connor
Hello everyone,
MUDCon Fall 2026
(https://www.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_Users_and_Developers_Conf…)
will be held from November 11 to 13, 2026, in Ljubljana, Slovenia. You
can now submit your contributions to the program.
Day 1 is dedicated to GLAM topics. We welcome talks about using
MediaWiki in galleries, libraries, archives, and museums. Share your
collection data, data models, queries, or experiences with migration.
Day 2 will cover MediaWiki in enterprise, government, and public sector
contexts. This includes internal knowledge bases, structured data,
registries, monument lists, archival data, and related topics. We also
invite talks on knowledge management and AI, such as assistants that use
wiki content, knowledge graphs, or the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Day 3 is a half-day focused on hands-on work, including 90-minute
tutorials and open sessions that we will organize together at the event.
We are also interested in new MediaWiki integrations and extensions,
project ideas, technical experiments, and challenges related to building
and running wikis. If you are unsure, please submit your idea anyway. We
will try to find a suitable place for your contribution.
You can choose from several formats: full talks (25 minutes), short
talks (10 to 15 minutes), or lightning talks (5 minutes). Tutorials and
co-creation sessions will take place on day 3.
To submit, just provide a title, the format, and a short abstract.
Please use the Semantic MediaWiki website
(https://www.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_Users_and_Developers_Conf…)
to publish your proposal by September 15, 2026. We will get back to you
by October 1, and the full program will be announced soon after.
If you are giving your first talk, this is a great conference to start
with. Sharing your own wiki experiences is just as valuable as technical
presentations. Get in touch with us if you are unsure whether your topic
is a good fit.
We look forward to receiving your proposals.
Cheers, Karsten Hoffmeyer, on behalf of the organizing committee
