The research project ECHOLOT [2] is trying to learn more about use cases of MediaWiki outside of the original projects of the Wikimedia Foundation.
We put a special focus on the GLAM sector (Galleries, Libraries Archives and Museum), but are welcoming also responses from other sectors like private or public organizations, or research and education).

Hi there,
Tomorrow is the next Global GLAM Call, 26 May at 13:30 UTC.
This month we will have an update about a Commons Upload tool that was
re-discovered at the NWE Hackathon, an update about the Open Heritage
Statement from Creative Commons, and then also a tutorial for submitting a
request for Translation Admin privileges; + plenty of time for other
updates from you and anyone else in the community.

Dear Wikibase Community,
We are excited to share that we are in our alpha version for the feature
for Ontology Federation!
This feature allows you to add Wikidata items to a Wikibase instance.
Please note that this feature is still a work in progress. There are also
some shortcomings we would like to make you aware of:

The representation of federated items in the API has not been worked on,
yet. It will be part of one of upcoming work packages and we would like to
get feedback on API requirements.

Reconciling the QueryService with the newly added federated items is a
subject of active investigation and development.

Over the last few months the Global GLAM Calls

significantly! This month in April there were more than 100 registrations,
and 50 attendees on the call. This is incredible!
All this is thanks to your contribution, curiosity, and continued
engagement with culture, heritage, and Wikimedia projects.
In case you missed the call the recording is already available

Commons. The topics, presenters, and documents, are also neatly organized

But now’s the time to build out the agendas for the coming months. Do you
have a topic you’d like to present on or have a request for? Send it to the

In 2026 there’s special focus on topics from the Strategic Pillars (Small
GLAMs, Minority Languages, Robust Technical Infrastructure, and Community
(mental) Health, and GLAM Recognition) but all kinds of presentations and
discussions are welcome.
