Dear Community,
We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you! For those who attended our last live session, you’re already in the loop. I hope that the rest of you are as excited as we are about this.
Our developers enabled InstaCommons as an extension for Wikibase Cloud.
What does this mean?
You can now effortlessly reference files from Wikimedia Commons directly in your Wikibase. This means you can upload your images to Commons and easily integrate them into your Wikibase whenever you need to.
Upload Your Media File to
Wikimedia Commons
Visit
Wikimedia Commons Upload Wizard
and upload your media file.
Create a New Property
In your Wikibase, create a new property
with the data type “Commons media file”.
Add a Statement to an Item
Select the property you created in
step 2 and add a statement to an item. Type the filename of the media you want to reference on Wikimedia Commons. For example, to reference the image “Felis_catus-cat_on_snow.jpg”, search for it on Commons.
Example Image Reference: Felis_catus-cat_on_snow.jpg
We hope this new feature empowers you to add visual context to your stories. Your feedback and wishes continue to shape the future of Wikibase Cloud, and we’re excited to see how you’ll use this update.
Wishing you an inspiring start to your week!
Looking forward to connecting soon,
Valerie
On behalf of the Wikibase Cloud Team
