Happy new year! 

We hope you keep accompanying us along our journey to develop Wikibase Cloud further. Keep an eye on our development page, where we soon announce our goals for the upcoming quarters.

Talking about plans and new beginnings:

Last year we saw a great amount of existing and new users joining our movement. That’s why we thought it would only be fit to give Wikibase Cloud a face to make it recognizable as its own part in the ecosystem and have a way to represent the community and the people contributing to it. 

Some of you might have seen our poll in the Telegram group, where we asked for your feedback on resonating attributes that could be translated visually.

According to the poll and multiple ideation rounds with the design agency MOR, we gathered the following sentiment and key components of Wikibase:

Diversity 

Openness

Co-creation

Experimentation

Exploration

Movement

Knowledge curation

Network

So, drum roll, this is what we’ve finally decided upon to be the new visual mark-up of Wikibase Cloud…

Even though you might not see it at first sight, there is real thought behind it. :-) 

The different elements of the logo represent the variety of knowledge that can be represented in our ecosystem. They are interconnected and show the intention of building a network of diverse Wikibases, all learning and building on each other. The shapes also represent the increase in knowledge and equity we want to foster. 

You can see that we based the logo on the same colors as Wikidata. We did so because we want to highlight the relationship between Wikibase and Wikidata. Even though they serve different purposes, they are both vital parts of the same ecosystem.
