For Wikipedia editors perhaps the most useful feature of the typical article in a scholarly journal is the opening section that summarizes the state of the debate on a specific issue. Here you can get in a nutshell what the main issues are and who is taking what position, with citations to the main publications, In history articles, very few editors make use of this. That is a serious research failure on the part of Wikipedia, in my opinion.
