I'm sharing a call-for-papers for a workshop that I'm helping to organize
at ACL 2025 (https://2025.aclweb.org/) that will be focused on celebrating
Wikimedia's contributions to the natural language processing (NLP)
community and highlighting approaches to ensuring the sustainability of
this relationship for years to come. Our website for the workshop is on

The workshop will be hybrid (virtual and in-person components). We have not
been assigned a date yet but it will either be July 31st or August 1st,
2025. Paper submission deadline is 23 April 2025. To get a sense of

There are three ways in which we are inviting contributions [1]:

Wikimedian provocations: we would like to collect ideas from Wikimedians
about what NLP tooling would be beneficial for your work. These are
informal and will help us guide future iterations. We will also do our best
to summarize them for the workshop and welcome folks who provide these to
attend (though that's not required).

Datasets: these will be traditional peer-reviewed, archival papers (8
pages max) that focus on describing datasets that would be useful to the
Wikimedia community. Given that we haven't collected the Wikimedian
provocations yet, we've provided a few seed ideas related to Wikipedia's
core content policies and the Community Wishlist:

Ongoing or published work on NLP for Wikimedia: if you'd like to
participate in the workshop and have previous work that is relevant, we'd
also love to have you. This track is also non-archival.
We will also be providing a paper checklist shortly (check back on the Meta
site) to give authors guidance on how to better align their work with the
needs and some of the principles of the Wikimedia Movement. We encourage
questions to the organizing team (cc'ed) and I have office hours that folks
can book if they would benefit from a more extensive discussion about ideas

The 1st GOBLIN Workshop on Knowledge Graph Technologies welcomes papers
on novel scientific research and innovations relevant to Knowledge
Graphs, their applications, and associated technologies. We encourage
submissions at the intersection of Knowledge Graphs with fields such as
Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, data science, and automation.
Submissions should be original and must not have been published
elsewhere in any form or language. Each submission will receive at least
three independent reviews and will be evaluated based on novelty,
technical quality, reproducibility, and practical significance.

held virtually over two days on *May 21 & 22, 2025*.
Wiki Workshop [2] is the premier annual event that brings together
researchers and scholars from around the globe who are interested in or
actively engaged in research and development on Wikimedia projects.
This year, for the first time, the workshop will span two days, featuring a
Research Track with presentations and discussions on ongoing and published
work related to Wikimedia projects, an engaging keynote presentation, and,
as always, music, games, and the fun activities that have become hallmarks
of previous workshops.

SEMANTiCS 2025 is a major venue for research and industrial innovation and
features a workshop and tutorial program addressing the diverse practical
interests of its audience. This program is intended to offer a rich
diversity of topics to conference attendees and local participants seeking
to pick up new skills and stay up-to-date regarding the latest developments
in the community. We encourage submissions of proposals on all topics in
the general areas of SEMANTiCS 2025 and proposals bridging or introducing
new perspectives and/or challenges in these areas. Workshops and tutorials
may incorporate panel discussions, lightning talks, meetings, networking or
hands-on sessions, hackathons and other practical formats where applicable.
Rooms for business or project meetings are available upon request as well.
*Scope and Goals*
Workshops and tutorials at SEMANTiCS 2025 allow your organization or
project to advance and promote your topics and gain increased visibility.
The workshops and tutorials will be announced on the SEMANTiCS website, and
they will be seen by all participants. SEMANTiCS 2025 workshops and
tutorials can be incubators for industrial and scientific communities that
form and share a particular research and development agenda, and they will
provide a forum for presenting contributions and findings to a diverse and
knowledgeable community. Furthermore, the event can be used as a
dissemination activity in the scope of large research projects or as a
closed format for research/commercial project consortia meetings.
*Proceedings*
Workshop papers will be published in the SEMANTiCS side event proceedings
through CEUR. Side events proceedings will include posters & demos and
contributions from workshops.
*Setup and Requirements*
SEMANTiCS 2025 workshops and tutorials may be either half or full-day long.
Workshops and tutorials take place on the days before and/or after the main
SEMANTiCS 2025 EU conference (03th of September 2025). Further details will
be communicated in due time.
Organizers of workshops and tutorials will be granted three free tickets
(only for the workshop & tutorial day) for organization purposes or
keynotes. Participants of workshops and tutorials will only be charged a
reduced fee to cover the basic costs. Workshop and tutorial proposals must
include the following information:

Online Images Amplify Gender Bias
By *Douglas Guilbeault (Stanford University)*
Each year, people spend less time reading and more time viewing images,
which are proliferating online. Images from platforms like Google and
Wikipedia are downloaded by millions every day, and millions more are
interacting via social media like Instagram and TikTok that primarily
consist of exchanging visual content. In parallel, news agencies and
digital advertisers are increasingly capturing attention online through the
use of visual content, which people process more quickly, implicitly, and
memorably than text. In this paper, we show that the rise of images online
significantly exacerbates gender bias, both in its statistical prevalence
and its psychological impact. We examine the gender associations of 3,495
social categories (such as nurse or banker) in over one million images from
Google, Wikipedia, and IMDb, as well as in billions of words from these
platforms. We find that gender bias is stronger and more prevalent in
images than text for both female- and male-typed categories. We further
show that the documented underrepresentation of women online is worse in
images compared to not only text, but also public opinion and US census
data. Finally, we conducted a nationally representative, pre-registered
experiment which shows that googling for images rather than textual
descriptions of occupations amplifies gender bias in participants’ beliefs.

Measuring the Gender GapBy *Tianwa Chen (The University of Queensland)*In
this presentation, I would like to present our three research works aimed
at measuring the gender gap on Wikipedia through data-driven strategies.
Our first study explores the estimation of gender completeness within
Wikipedia, offering a new methodology for assessing content gaps. The
second study analyses the evolution of gender diversity, employing
visualizations to track the gender distribution in Wikipedia articles
categorized under ‘Person’ over time. The third and ongoing study delves
into the gender balancing efforts among Wikipedia editors. We are currently
conducting interviews within the editor community and planning to develop a
dashboard through a co-design approach. These studies collectively advance
our understanding of gender representation and provide actionable insights
to foster gender equality in the Wikipedia community.Addressing Wikipedia’s
Gender Gaps Through Social Media AdsBy *Reham AL Tamime (University of
Strathclyde)*Wikipedia’s well-documented gender gap remains a persistent
challenge, with women underrepresented among contributors. While past
efforts—such as Edit-a-thons, workshops, and social media campaigns—have
aimed to bridge this gap, more targeted approaches remain under-explored.
In this talk, I will present our project, which explores the use of social
media advertising to reach and recruit women as Wikipedia editors. I will
share preliminary findings from our targeted advertisements on LinkedIn,
where we designed a survey to assess the effectiveness of the reach of the
advertisement. Building on these insights, I will discuss how we have
expanded our approach to include multiple social media platforms, refined
targeting strategies, and developed various messages to increase reach and
eventually participation in Wikipedia.

We are happy to announce that the 21st edition of the Reasoning Web
Summer School (RW 2025) will take place from September 25-28, 2025 in
Istanbul, Turkey. RW 2025 is part of Declarative AI 2025, which also
includes the 9th International Joint Conference on Rules and Reasoning
(RuleML+RR) and DecisionCAMP 2025, both held from September 22-24, 2025.
The purpose of the Reasoning Web Summer School is to disseminate recent
advances in reasoning techniques and relevant topics related to
ontologies, rules, logic, the semantic web, linked data, and knowledge
graph applications. The summer school is primarily intended for
individuals who are currently pursuing or have recently completed
postgraduate degrees (PhD or MSc). However, the school also welcomes the
participation of researchers at later career stages who wish to become
acquainted with the area or deepen their understanding of recent
developments. The RW school is a great venue for meeting like-minded
researchers and exchanging with an engaging and approachable group of
international lecturers!

*** Applications & Registration ***
To participate in RW 2025, you will need to submit a short application,
with information on your academic and research background and motivation
for attending the school. You can do so by filling out the following form:

or alternatively, by sending the organizers an email with all of the
information requested on the form.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and notifications will
be sent within 1-2 weeks from the time of application. Successful
applicants will receive information on how to pay the registration fee
to confirm their spot in the school.
There is a discounted fee of 240€ (incl. VAT) for applications received
by May 31st (180€, for local participants with a Turkish affiliation).
The regular fee of 300€ (incl. VAT) applies to applications received on
or after June 1st (240€, for local participants with a Turkish
affiliation). The registration fee includes access to the lectures,
lunches, and coffee breaks for the four days, as well as a social event.
Note that students who participate in RW 2025 are also encouraged to
apply to the Rule ML+RR Doctoral Consortium. Students attending both
events will not need to pay the Doctoral Consortium fee.
