I was in Ohio last week where it rained inches - so wonderful to
just stand outside. I spent 5 days with people who thought I would
be thrilled to have another Texas president...the evils of unions for policemen,
teachers and Firemen! God help us!
Meanwhile flying back into Waco yesterday the pilot says 'if you'll look
out the windows on the right you'll see a rather large brush fire.'
It was only another of the small fires we've had...nothing to compare to what is
going on in South Texas.
Jayne, your words are profound. My prayers
are with you all. Please let us know if there is anything we can
do...
Much Love,
Joy

The world is grown so bad, that wrens make prey where eagles
dare not perch.
Be safe, Doc. Be vigilant. (And prepare to secede if
Rick Perry is ever president.) We are praying for you and for
rain...
Jayne

So strange, how we have floods up here and you so
desperately need rain down there.
Glad to hear you're ok.

Re: [Weeklong-l] fires
Doc, that is so scary. I gather from
talking to my sister that one of the big problems is a shortage of
firefighters given the number of fires. I trust people are flying in
from all over to work, and in the meantime I’m glad to hear your local
firefighters stopped the blaze. I’m also glad to hear you’re getting
your things packed just in case. Things happen so fast and you need to
be ready to go if it comes to that. Be safe and keep us
posted.
Much love to you and Joanne,
Maggie

Re: fires
Hey, thanks, Maggie. Our farm is about a mile from
Rutersville. We rushed back here from South Texas (at the Keilers Ranch)
to find that the fire fighters had stopped the fire before it had a chance to
come our way. It did burn up a lot of land west of us, including the old
Citzler homestead where Marilyn Wagner was born. It is very scary
here. They cannot control the fire in Bastrop. It has been burning
now since Sunday morning. And getting worse. We can see the mountains of
smoke from out house, 40 miles away. About every hour another fire pops
up somewhere. I spent the day watering the dying grass all around the
house. Folks here (including us) are packing crates and bags for
evacuation in the event the Bastrop fire turns this way or something comes
from the east. Everyone is a bit unsettled, nervous. We need
rain, badly, and right now.
Rick Perry will likely blame Obama for the
fires, the drought, and for distracting him from his political
evangelism.
We are fine.
Sky-watching.

Dear Doc and All,
The Texas
fires are just heartbreaking/devastating, and I see online that there is one
in Ruttersville, about 10 miles from Round Top. I hope all of you in
Texas--and all your family and friends and homes--are safe and the weather
conditions turn for the better soon. You are on my mind and in my
heart. Please send word when you have the chance to let us know how you
are.
With much love to you all,
Maggie
