Dear Winedale Friends,

Wanted to get the word to you about a production of Love's Labour's Lost that I've directed for Austin Shakespeare that opens this weekend. It runs through May 29, Thursdays through Sundays (except Mother's Day), 8pm, at the Hillside Theatre in Zilker Park. I had a blast putting the show together, and I'm really proud of the actors, who took my very specific concept for the show and ran with it. Warning to anyone allergic to conceptual takes: It's set on the Southern California coast in 1963 and very deliberately evokes the pop culture of the day.

LLL was one of the plays we did my first summer at Winedale back in '78, and it was my first encounter with the play. I played Nathaniel, the parish curate, and in a bit of cosmic whimsy, the actor playing that role in the current production has a conflict with the last performance, so I'll be stepping back into the role after 33 years. Here's hoping I manage it with a little more grace than my first turn.

Anyway, I invite everyone who's in the vicinity this month to drop by. And if you need any further incentive, it's free, and it's under the stars.

All the best,
Robert
