Dear Colleagues,
I would like to recommend you this page about the future of Wiki loves ... projects: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Future
and there is a section about the Wiki Loves Public Art contest: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2013/Future#...
In Hungary, we plan to organize this contest in the following year, and I would be very happy if other countries joined to the contest (specially if countries around Hungary would participate in it next year), and it could be an international contest (again).
For countries, who participated in WLPA this year (Austria, Finland, Israel, Sweden, Spain) it is not a big deal to repeat the contest based on the existing lists, but there is a huge potential to cover new areas and to add new targets to the list in every countries.
I am waiting forward to our fruitful cooperation.
Best regards, Samat
Samat, it is great to hear that Hungary will join in 2014!
Wikimedia Sverige has indeed set aside some time/money in order to help coordinate the international part of the contest again next year. However, the budget is pretty tight so there is a need for more people to get involved in the international team. So all of you, please let me know if you care to join in any capacity! We need help with a bunch of things to make it happen again!
As far as I have understood from previous conversations there are interest in: Sweden; Austria (if they find more lists); Israel; Switzerland; India; and Possibly South Africa. I am also pretty sure that one country from Latin America (Venezuela?) signed up on the Wiki Loves Monuments - Future Workshop in Hong Kong. (But I don't have my notes about it here.)
I certainly hope that also the fantastic people in Spain and Finland will join us again as a lot of the preparations have been done there!
Just the other day I started working on the portal on Commons and on drafting the time line: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Public_Art_2014. Feel free to expand/create any of the pages there! (I don't think that I will have time to work on them until a couple of weeks from now but it would be great to have at least some information on them shortly.) Also, please help spreading the word about the contest!
Best,
John
